Fuel Light

Does the fuel light always blink or does it stay on constantly when you get really low on gas?

Is yours blinking? It might if the tank was violently shaking I suppose.(?)

Mine slowly comes on around a quarter tank. It fades on/off until the gauge is near E after which it stays on.

I honestly don't believe that mine even works. I've taken her below the E mark and that light has never came on. Never actually ran out of gas either though (*knock on wood).

I accidently ran out of gas awhile back, cause I wanted to check if the fuel warning lamp was workin or not but the gauge is not as accurate as I thought. I'll be inspecting this problem soon enough. If it's not the bulb, where do I look next?

I still have 3.5 gallons left in the tank when I hit E, but the one time I ran out of gas it never came on, then another time I was close to running out, it came on real dim, and then went out, about 30 miles before I filled up so I have no idea whats up with it.

From my experience with my 88 300zx (which is probably a very similar fuel sending unit), the gas light will come on and stay on when really low on gas.

I sometimes notice it flicking on and off when going over bumpy roads or under hard acceleration...this is because the amount of fuel in the tank is right around when the light turns on (eg keep driving long enough and the light will come on and stay on).

On the 300zx with 72L tank, the light comes on at about 15L left.

according to an online converts, 15L is a very little less than 4 gallons and 72 liters is about 19 gallons
