KYB Rear Struts Too Long?

I'm finally getting my suspension put back together and noticed that the cap holding rear cartidge in the strut only engages 2 or 3 threads. The KYBs have a spacer of sorts welded to the bottom. Anyone of you guys running the KYBs trim the spacer or did you guys leave it alone? I recall reading a thread on this but I can't find it. Kind of bothers me thinking that it's a single failure point in the rear suspension if the cap comes off.

And I forgot what a pain in the neck reinstalling the stock front coils are....

Thanks!

I'd love some guidance on this as well. I just installed my KYB Gr-2 rears, and the rod is probably 2" about the rubber bumper and metal washer. In effect, the rear shocks now do nothing because the rod just travels freely. Can anyone help?
