3rg gear in a vg 5peed
#2
It might be in the owner's manual...i remember i read the manual for an old bmw, and it was in there. I can check mine.
Or if there are any math wizzes on the board, they can do the rpm/gear ratio/tire size thing.

hey mark are you sure about that? I can go like only 60 in second with 225/45/17.
this is what I remember when My speedo work
1st 30
2nd 60
3rd I want to say 95 not sure though
4th no clue
5th was like 147 to 151 guessing as i pegged the ve gauges in my vg gxe

Going by your tire size 225-45-17 it should be:
1 - 37
2 - 66
3 - 96
4 - 128
5 - 154
Tire pressure can change the speeds but most likely, the guages are probably just slightly off.
You know what... I just remember you had the VE tranny... this is what yours should roughly be:
1st - 35 mph
2nd - 63 mph
3rd - 92 mph
4th - 122 mph
5th - 147 mph
@ 6,000 rpm with 225-45-17 tires
Speeds will also vary a little bit due to fuel cut being around 6200 rpm or so.

ok well how about this one.
I ran at the track with my Z wheels
225/50/16
what would be the mph on the gears on that one. And does that put me at a better gear ratio for the 1/4 with that tire/rim combo than My street tires size 225/45/17
ok Also I ran at the track on saturday and I had the street z tires and rims on the front. I did my previous best time on 10psi with no cams or head work. I ran a whole second slower than my previous time at 9psi with cam and head work due to spinning. when i shifted to 3rd gear they starting spinning bad. My 1/8 was like a 9.5 but yet the 1/4 time was like 14.2. Well I know that im making more power at 9psi with a very rich air/fuel ratio. I could not get a kock level over 18 at the track ....thats very rich to me. But yet the tires would cut loose in third. So I need tires and a tune before i will return to the track

Actually, now that I look at it again your street tires are only .1 inch bigger than the tires you're using for the strip.
I don't know a whole lot about the best gear ratios for the drag strip but I know you want to at least keep it so that you don't have to shift while crossing the 1/4 mile line. If you start getting up to the top of 4th and need to shift right near the end of the track I'd probably go with a slightly larger tire. Hopefully someone with some more track experience can chime in though because I'm not 100% sure.
