High Idle/Surging

High Idle/Surging

I noticed lately that after I drive to work (a good 12 miles away) and put my car into PARK, the idle surges to about 1100 RPM (sometimes 1400-1500 RPM), then it comes down. Also, I noticed it idles about 900 RPM now also.

It drives fine otherwise. Anything I should check?

What type of gas did you use. My brothers integra does this when he uses cheap 87 octane.

check the idel air control vaule or maybe look for A vacum leak.

Check ALL the vacuum hoses for broken and/or cracked hoses...If all ok the n look into the iacv for a good cleaning or replacement...

Try new gas first. Some times my mom would get cheap gas in her max and it would run like complete garbage. Just put some nice 89 or better in it. The max will thank you.

NEVER by Speedway gas. It's CRAP!! Just My 2 cents.

I'm leaning toward cracked-out IACV, but yeah, try different gas and checking for vacum leaks first.

I always buy gas from the same Chevron gas station. I filled it with nothing but 87 octane, except for a few times.

I'll check the IACV and vacuum hoes. Thanks.

I have a 92 to max and lately it has a random problem. it idles very poorly (0-500) and bounces around. When this happens i get poor gas mileage(approx. 50 miles 1/2 tank, and i nearly get smoked out of my car it stinks (gas) :attention . i constantly need to stay on the accelerater to keep it running. it has a hard time shifting when this happens also. then just as random as it started it stops. it lasts for two days somtimes two minutes. ive replaced the maf and that didnt do the trick. any suggestions would be fantastic thanks

if it were the injectors wouldnt it happen all the time?

Not Necessary. When things on a car begin to go they work then dont then work again until it dies. When was the last time you changed the plugs and wires with some good ones, not the cheap $8 wire set but something in the premium range?

Then its got a vg motor if 89 91 the se all gxes have vg motor

First off, I'm sorry for doing a little hijack here, but now I am really curious...this would be the VG right?

I know I got an SE...but I really know very little...knowing which motor I have would really help so thanks in advance!

You guys with idle problems should start by checking your ECU for problem codes. If you aren't sure how to do this, spend a little time looking through the stickies -- the information is in there if you do a little digging.

IACV and hoses are good places to start. Mine was acting batty and it was my coolant temp sensor. The IACV also added to the problem.
