Third Gen Insurance ...HELP!

Well here's the story folks.......I'm looking at buying a Third gen Max for a college vehicle, and of course, one with a VE engine. I already have a '95, but for complicated reason's can't drive it currently. Besides, I happen to like the style of the third gen , but getting back to point, the insurance for a Third gen SE is EXPENSIVE!I'd be okay if I only had the 4th gen car, but with two Max SE's, I'd be paying more than if I'd bought a z28 . Anyone know how to knock a couple a hundred off the bottom line, or am I SOL?

relevant info:
No accidents.
Turn 19 in March
No tickets.

Thanks.

If you're not currently driving the fourth gen it shouldn't be a hassle to transfer the coverage to the third gen..

i've done this twice before and was charged a small fee for paper work.

it really could change the cost by changing the type of coverage. if you change the premiums and deductables you may be able to lower your cost

Weird. Companies usually charge more for 2-doors or v-8s and stuff like that. Look around. My insurance rates have remained the same thru ownership of an accord, a turbo audi, and the maxima. Right now I'm driving a cherokee and I think the rate for that is the same, too.

Pends on how you're doing, but the good student discount can shave a few bucks. Change your permenant address to whichever location is cheaper (though that depends on your insurance company), school or home. Call around and vary the factors (ie pleasure car, no commute, sub-6,000 miles a year, etc.). AAA insurance tends to be very cheap in some states, about 150 less than almost anyone else in VT. At 19 you can take the absolute minimum coverage too (provided you don't have a trust fund), though that is a personal choice and holding bare minimums over a long period of time (i've heard) can have a negative impact on the rate category they put you in.

Sounds like it is time to switch to a company on that other side now. LOL

Try going thru an insurance agent (ind. or otherwise), they can sometimes get better deals, even for full coverage. They will shop different companies they have ralationships with and get the best price for you.
I haven't done this myself (soon though), but a couple guys here at work recommended going that route. Maybe ask around for some references, or try the phone book.

Right now I have gieco on my 90 max and 98 frontier. Just liability and a couple speeding tickets, costs me 1,999 for 12 months.

I got a qoute from liberty mutaul for 997 for 12 months!!!!!

It may still seem high, but i'm 22, in city limits, and a couple tickets.

i know in indiana, you get a discount for insuring two or more cars...it will probably be a bit less than if you just insured the car that is worth the most; the logic is that you can only drive one car at a time and theres a possibility that you'll be driving the cheaper-to-insure car half of the time...meaning that you might get in a wreck in it instead of the more expensive car and they'll have actually gotten more money, if you wreck, in the long run this way.

used to drive both my 92 gxe and my old 91 dodge dynasty (3.3 baby!) and it was cheaper than if i had just insured the maxima by 20 dollars a month...hahaha.

i currently pay 200 a month for full coverage ; thats more than my car payment! by the time this car is payed off, i could have bought a second one...insurance is a rip off, but too risky to drive without as well.

its alright; my cars a class 7 now, so im getting a deal in my eyes...id hate to find out how much theyd charge me if they knew THAT!

The reason I'm trying to get the insurance down is because , well, I could deal with the money for insuring the 3rd gen, but when I add the 4th gen to the policy, wouldnt the $ effectively double? I got an esurance quote for the 1993 Max SE that was $5 more than a Camaro z28 of the same year.
the numbers came to be $1540 every six months, so yearly its close to $3000 . For 1 Car! What to do when I add the 4th gen , which BTW, costs more than the above number?

well you have to remember, your insurance isn't paying for your car. it's paying for the 2006 BMW 7-series you decide to rear end....

I know someone that lives in VA and he let me use his address. I just save 600 per 6 months by doing that. I now pay 112/month for jus liability.

the policy won't double, they will most likely change the 4th gen to be the primary car with the 3rd gen as a secondary.
What type of coverage are you getting quoted on?
Liability with 300/100/300 coverage?
Full coverage 300/100/300?
liability 15/20/40 (or something like that)?

the prices between them all will vary widely.
if you're getting full coverage, what is the deductible? 250? 500? 1000?

also where in the city do you live? on the southside near abandoned lots , liquor stores and used car lots? or on the north side near million dollar homes?

That is insurance fraud and might be a felony.

Wow. I use esurance and I pay $1022 every six months. That is with maximum coverage for PI and UM and collision on the Max, the 944 and the GTO. $250 deductables on the 944 and the Max. The GTO does cost about the same as the Max though, strange as one is 350HP and the othger is 190.

That's what I'm saying... Insurance companies have screwy ways of catagorizing vehicles. That is good to know about the GTO, though. I want one as my next car, which could be as soon as this summer, if I'm lucky. I WILL keep the Maxima, too though.

It all comes down to the zip code you live in, your age, the safety features on the car, and the kind of car it is. The fact that you're under 25 makes a huge deal.

I'd probably get the insurance is someone else's name that over 25.. at least it'd be cheaper. That's what I did when I was under 25yr old....

Yeah, I stayed on my parents policy until I hit 25. Then off to esurance. The 25 mark made a big difference.

Yes, for the current chassis...I'm pretty sure they get a redesign with more aggressive styling for '07.

'08 or '09 yes, '07? Not even. GM doesn't have a RWD platform for the GTO and Holden killed the current one. The 'insider' talk is '09.

Have you tried esurance or progressive. I've found progressive to be the cheapest with the downpayment if you sign up online and allow them to take the money directly out your bank account.

I pay $495 every six months for 300/100/300 liability through Shelter (independent agent) with the insurance in my own name at age 20. I paid 650+ til I turned 18, then it dropped under 500, and at 21 its supposed to drop to around 375-425/6 months..of course, since I'm not driving the max, I dropped coverage on it, but the rate is the same on both my truck and the max..

try state farm, i was paying 104 monthly in texas for just liability before i turned 21 with 300/100/300 coverage, now im 21 with no tickets or accidents..... shhhh 3d..... and was paying 54. now that i moved to fargo i pay like 460 a year for liability. but yeah they work with you pretty well, the first quote was like 73 a month here then they were like well we could do this this this and if you do this it will be 37.80 monthly... so give them a shot..... of course full coverage with 250 deductible on a 2006 sti would be 126 a month for me... not that id sell my car to get one....

a few things that affects the premium:

-coverage (liability, comp, collission, limits, deductible)
-miles driven
-age
-Motor vehicle report

you may want to ask for some credit on your policy like alarm system installed and any anti-theft item you are using. just my .02
