Like if you wanted one that was completly built in 2005 but with the same body style, maybe with a better interior. So it would be like a custom order for nissan to create. $250,000?

I think you'd have better luck starting with a rust-free body, stripping it, and building it from the ground up. SOme guy bought a 92 VE with like 15000 miles for 8 grand awhile back.

Mine was $23k brand new... I'm not sure I'd pay that much in 2005 dollars.

But you gotta consider the custom work involved. They usually produce cars in thousands at a time, but if they're gonna make only one car it's gonna cost a pretty neat sum. Think about it, they need to make all parts again from scratch, unless there are enough new parts laying around to build a whole car. And just to take on such a job, considering Nissan's size of company and their turnover... to be able to just get them to think about it it'll cost you, they won't exactly miss a couple of bucks. I'd guess somewhere around $200k at least. Probably more.

Why don't you call them and ask them seriously

Anyways, for that kinda money you'd be better off getting yourself a brand new Porsche

heh, either go the muscle car restoration route (redo EVERYTHING, clean up frame, body, do some modifications to prevent rust in the future, run thick wires, basically, rebuild the whole 3rd gen from the ground up again) Or save that cash, buy a GTR when it comes out, or import the R34, then go mod crazy, create a 1100 HP monster, with some cash leftover to buy a house with a garage to put it in. OR save all that money up and do CDs with them, or invest in the stock market.

You're not kidding! The third generation maxima is Nissan's most popular design. Some have credited that design with saving the company from bankruptcy. Its basic design was produced for 6 (89 - 94) years! The odd contrast is - the fifth generation only lasted four years (00 - 02). And considering how Nissan has marketed the Altima, I doubt 6th gens Maximas will last beyond 4 years.

Nismo , because of the brute popularity of the Skyline R34's, they bought back some, I don't remember how many, no more than about 100 of them, all low-mileage 20,000 > miles. They modded the engine to make about 520 BHP, and then resold them for 250K apiece.

Nissan might do the same thing , except using a VQ conversion, putting a modded 290+ VQ engine in the third gen, plus a few mods to get the hp number to about 350+.
Est. price: Likely $45-50k if they make 100 or more.

The only challenges would be finding low-mileage examples to mod.

Those some would be wrong, Nissan was in the red untill '02-'03. What saved it was Carlos Ghosn and a partnership with Renault. If you could pin the "new" Nissan on any car it would be the Altima 3.5 SE.

Hmmm yes, let me see. Nissan builds a limited run of 3 gen maximas brand new. Sells them for let's say $25,000. 190hp. Yeah, I can see the lines forming now.

More like $160k a peice, and only 20 will be made. The suspension alone costs $20k.

custom work? fenders are in a parts bin, doors, dashes, etc etc...what custom work are we talking about here? right...200K my ****.

only "custom" work is needed is to get the car to meet the new safety and emission standards.

joe: i think he was talking about reproducing the 3rd gen. of course that would never be done unless everyone here was super rich and wouldn't mind pooling together the money it would take for nissan to do it. instead a 7th gen which resembles the 3rd gen would be sick of course a maxima isn't even the same class anymore so it would be an altima.

This completely off the subject (well maybe not completly), but does anyone have any idea how much it would cost to import an r34 or maybe an older one straight from japan?

Not much.

Too bad getting the Fed regulations down will cost 10x the cost of the car.
