manifold cleaning
Ok i plan on porting my intake manifolds(spares thanks to mrgone) within the next 2 week and i was wondering what be be the best way to clean them before i do it, they have all the buildup inside that you would expect from a 13 year old car so i was thinking soaking them would be the best idea( i dont have access to a parts cleaner) but i'm not sure in what, anybody have any ideas? i wasnt sure if seafoam or simplegreen would be suitable or if i should just spray a couple of cans of engine cleaner in there or if i should even bother and just leave them dirty, thanks. i'll try to post pics later tonight to show how dirty they are.

Brake parts cleaner evaporates really fast so you would go through a lot to try and cut the heavy stuff. I like to use carb dip but it's $100 for 5 gallons and you can't use it on plastic and rubber. The upper intake probably wouldn't fit in the can either, the lower will. I would try simple green or a purple cleaner but make sure you rinse all that stuff off because it will corrode aluminum if you let it sit too long.

hey guys thanks for all your suggestions, i'll try cleaning it myself and if that doesn't work i could feasibly use a parts cleaner but it would be more of a hassle.
I've read up quite a bit on it and i know there is probably noway i'm going to get it perfect but since it is a spare set of manifolds i am not terribly worried about it, my goal is just going to be to uniformly increase the size of everything, if i was serious about this i would have a shop do it for me with the flow bench and do the heads also. also i am seriously looking into doing a 5spd swap this summer( if i can find a 5spd ) and if that comes to fruition i will swap out the manifold with the one from the 5spd.

if you're going to port...do you know what you're doing? do you have a flow bench? or access to one?
