there is a ping noise when I crank my car up. literally it sounds like a ping! It has never happened and didnt do this a year ago. It also happenes to my friends 88 when she cranks it up also. I would like to know is this common? Also my car doesnt crank up as fast as it used to.It used to crank up as soon as I turn the key. I mean literally Quick, barely turn the key its on , now it takes alittle bit more time to crank up. What could be the problem? Please help me out? Being the only 2nd gen. its kinda hard to get Questions answered.

 

My VG30E engine (Max 92, 5 sp. manual) does the same for 3 years. The culprit is one (ore more) worn gap compensators (valve drive). Nothing serious - the sound lasts only few seconds.
