Will they bolt-on? If not, Can they be modded to fit?

No, anything can be modded to fit.

I've ridden in my 4th gen seats for more than 25,000 miles and I'd have to say that they're not worth putting in any other car. The third gen seats are more comfortable than the fourth gen. Why do you want to put them in your third gen?

Here's what I would do if I were you:

Since you're probably going to have to do modification to put 4th gen seats in you might as well just put in the Z seats. You would still need to find the rear 3rd gen seats somewhere though...

I'd get a 4th gen rear seat then and get something sporty for the front, like G35 or Z seats, that's my final answer

I saw this when I searched, but my problem is that the seat I need to replace MOST is the rear backrest part. I have already replaced the driver seat (had it re-covered), and the passender is OK for now.

I have 4th gen seats in my 3rd gen and no they will not simply bolt in. You do need to make some pretty extensive mods to the seat tracks or the mounting points on the floor. Since you aren't interested in that, then I guess you'll need to find other seats or simply recover your existing ones.
And yes, 4th gen seats aren't as comfortable as 3rd gen seats, but they're not as bad as some seem to make them out to be.

I used to own a 3rd gen for a few years. during that time i put in 4th gen seats. maximaboi has the car now. One side of the seats will fit the other you will have to cut the old seat mount out (plasma cutter works nice or sawzall) and weld a new mount in place. you can go to home depot and get some metal to fab a mount its not hard. use grade 8 bolts to put the seat in place after you level it and get it strait. the 4th gen seats arent as comfoortable as the 3rd gen ones like everyone has been saying. i have a 4th gen now a 99se and the seats just dont get more comfy that the 3rd gen....also the rear seats will require fab work but can be done cheeply. the bottom part will fit with some "convincing" the back part does not line up you can use heavy grade tie wire to strap that sucker down. or you can do it the right way and fab brackets with some hole punched steel.

Okay, what if I only need to replace the backrest of the rear? I don't need to replace the front
