Very expensive part. junk yard wants $50 with 30 day warranty. but thats a 50/50 chance im taking. might lose out on the labor.Everybody wants 170 and better remanufactured.(not counting the core exchange) what should i do? any advice , sites or stores i could go to. thank you

if you are doing it yourself and son't mind having to do the job multiple times , get JY one.

otherwise get a rebuilt unit from someplace you trust to have a good part, not just a core with a paint job

u shouldn't really count the core charge since u're getting that back once u return the old part
yes a yard unot that involves high pressure hydraulics is always gonna be a gamble...then again u can spend about 4 times as much and get a LIFETIME warranty...that's some nice insurance....then again u can but a rebuild kit for like 60 bucks...assuming that a rebuild is all that it needs....
www.partsamerica.com is usually a good place and they'll ship it to you for free if ur order is over 50 bucks

Just curiose, are there any gains from getting a brand new rack, compared to the used ones we have on our cars already? Is there a chance the steering would become more nimble and accurate?

this is very true....however partsamerica.com will usually ship the items to the closest Advance Auto, Checker, Schuck’s, or Kragen store to you so that shouldn't be a problem

i would actually think that a brand new rack...as in a unit from Nissan would be one of the only ways to get a tighters steering feel - this is assuming they use only nissan parts.
the tired old seals in our current on-car units, along with non-spec aftermarket seals (i don't care who makes them) or even a non-nissan core which is being rebuilt is not going to give the same feel as oem stock - but the general public is not that sensitive to notice in the first place.

unfortunately because of all the geometry involved with the steering system, this isn't one of those hot ticket areas for the aftermarket. but u should be able to get some of the slop out of the system with an upgraded suspension system and a more rigid chassis (ala Blehmco). a higher flowing steering pump might reduce some steering effort but in the end the tightness (or lack thereof) of the actual hard parts of the rack is gonna be the weak link
