I was looking to do a fairly inexpensive performance mod on my 92 SE 5 spd, so I did the cat conv. I want to keep my car looking normal and not all tricked out, so I am trying to keep the mods under the hood and under the car. After changing the cat, I notice no performance improvement and it sounds exactly the same. I didn't want to change the muffler because then it will look like I had work done on the car, but I think the catalytic converter will not help unless the muffler is done as well. Just wanted to let anyone know this who is planning on changing their cat.

I hate to say it buy you wasted time and money. You really wont get any change unless you have your whole exhaust system done.I would really reccomend a WSP Y pipe.Go to www.warpspeedperformance.com this is one of the mods you really can feel a difference. Then go for a cat back system and muffler then your cat will be effective.

Hey man you should of read my post a few days ago. I warned people about this high performance cat. It doesnt do anything. The only thing that you will be bale to notice is the Y-pipe and taking the cat out and putting a straight pipe instead, dont waist money , on mufflers and high-perf, exuasts and all that crap. You want power Y-pipe and straight-pipe with no cat. I gurantee you the diff.

AS I remember, you said you would not feel the Y either. Change your mind??

Although a HP cat might not make a difference alone, you should probably get one if you get the Y, becuase at least the cattman Y's output flange is larger than the stock cat.

I can guarantee you if you need to pass emissions, using a straight pipe is not going to cut it.

I do remember saying it, but I had my reason. My friend has 91 SE and I drove his car before the y-pipe and after he got the y-pipe and felt no diff what so ever. Maybe because he had stock exhaust. But i do feel the diff on my car. Just to clear that up.

Another thing about straight pipes. You will lose low end and that is not good we need all the low end possible out of these cars because of the weight.I dont know about you guys but I would rather keep good low end than have a little bit more on the top.Just get a 2.5 cat and that will be good enough you can still pass emissions and still have the flow you need.Just my .02

I mentioned that as well that u loose low end, but gain high end. But the UD pulley helps alot more on the low end, so no worries there, increase timing and maybe some ignition upgrade and your good to go.

I dunno..... I'm running a straight pipe right now out of bone stock exhaust. It wasn't by choice, but by necessity at the moment. I HATE that I don't have any low end anymore, because I've been getting beat off the line by some pretty crappy cars lately. And yeah, I'll agree that the UDP WILL help a bit, but the difference would be negligible, at best.

I think I'm going to go back to a cat, in the long run. And probably do the whole exhaust while I'm at it. I miss being able to chirp the tires in 2nd.

That's just MY $0.02 worth.

I dont know man, you have a VE? and you cant chirp tires from 1-2 . Ever simce i took out the cat ive been doing that all the time when I race. I dont know i mean its just little slower from the start, not alot, maybe because you have stock exhaust, without y-pipe or muffler.

That's what I've been thinking. I'll know once I get the rest of the exhaust. Now, if I can only find a decent bargain......

keep in mind nubiannupe has an auto, so chirping the tires isnt a small feat.
