White Spark Plugs

Hey guys,

I was dismayed doing my major tune-up today to find that my spark plugs came out white. I've got 149K on the good ol' VG30E motor, and always use 91 octane. For those mechanically familiar with this engine, do you think I just need to check my timing, or does the cause of the white plugs run deeper like insufficient cooling? I know the white indicates a lean mixture, but don't know where to go from here. The idle air control valve sort of looms in my head too. Anyone who has input, or found what I found in their engines, feel free to post up. Thanks!

My Car idles up high because of a vac. leak but It also has white plugs because more air is getting in the engine without being measured so it is running lean.

Any help for us ^^^^ would be appreciated Thanks

y do plugs get affected by too much air (i.e. lean condition)? it's usually fuel, oil or other contaminants that foul a plug right?

Not that bad. It's just white, no deposits. It's definitely an air/fuel mixture problem, I just wanted opinions from this site and past experiences before I investigate further. If anything, I woulda thought my engine would run rich since I have broken exhaust studs. My fuel economy is still awesome.

well, check your timing first...whoever did the last timing belt may have played with it...

P.S.
my wife's beretta burns oil like crazy and when i took the plugs out for a regular change they were all white...it turned out that the oil is decreasing the grade of gas and the car starts to detonate....we started putting premium and everything is back to normal(for now at least)...still, I don't believe that this is your problem...
