Dead power steering.. need help

Hey guys...

Symptoms:
No power steering at low speeds (no throttle input from stop)
Power steering goes back to "normal" once it gets up to speed.

Power steering fluid levels ok.

Power steering pump dead?? As I remember, the power steering hasn't been changed since i've taken ownership of the car over 2 years ago. Should I try changing the fluids first?

how would u rate steering effort at a stop while revving the motor (or at slow speeds with high rpm if u have a manual trans)?

sounds ike low system pressure which is either the pump or (hopefully) the belt just is worn and has too much slack .

check the belts
make sure the pulley is being driven correctly
if it isn't the belt then start saving for a pump..

per ur query 'bout the fluid, steering fluid (which is usually just auto trans fluid) rarely fails in such a way to cause ur symptoms

steering effort when the sympton shows up is 10/10... i'm talking absolutely no power assistance.

but with brute force, i am still able to drive the car.. so i'm thinking of leaving it the way it is and just save up for another car.

Thx for the help man... i really appreciate it.

I'd make sure your belts are tight first before you replace your pump. It is an expensive repair and you will be kicking yourself if it was only your belt.
