another auto tranny bit the dust....

Hello guys,
me and ZanatechRacing went to chicago on sunday(450miles one way) for the car show. After a really long day of driving 900 miles and spending considerable amount of time at the show we came back to mpls and passed out pretty much instantly. Mike woke me up at 8am to let me know that he's leaving for Fargo and after saying bye I jumped in the shower. Well, at 8:10 my cell rang and and guess who-Mike...I turns out that right after he merged into the highway and got to 65mph there was a loud "bang" and it was all over...poor guy. The car is a 90 Se from texas with zero rust and pretty nice condition overall...the guy is crushed. We ended up towing the car to my place and he had to rent another vehicle and get on the road to Fargo. So,now, his only car is 250 miles away from him with a rough estimate of $1200+...It's weird because the tranny never gave any indication of a problem. I drove 700 of the 900 miles yesterday and didn't notice anything weird. He still doesn't know what he'll do with the car and he's not really happy about the idea of putting all this money into it...poor guy, I feel really bad...I just thought I'd share...

well im bringing up 2 VG autos to johns (colombianmax) this weekend. Id sell you one for like $100. Or ZanatechRacing I mean. It would probably be the 187K mile tranny. But it sounds like a tourqe converter, and I have one, I dont know if john wants it or not.Any way have Zanatechracing PM me or AIM me, Thats the best way to get ahold of me. Im on alot from 8:30-12am.

Any more detail on what happened? did it coast to a stop? RPMs shoot up? Not that it really matters as you really cant tell untill you crack it open. But ive pulled 2 auto box's and put in and taken out a 5 speed so I know my way around. Id be more then willing to help change the trannys, Im doing Maxi_moose's tranny this weekend.

LMK if I can help out in any way~Alex

yeah max is right, i was only going up to about 4k-4.5k rpm when merging, it wasn't a loud clunk more like hitting a small bump with a worn strut at like 5-10 mph. we checked for a blown seal (nothing leaking from the bottom etc....) the axel looked intact (max checked it). im thinking its the torque converter being as there is more resistance to rolling in drive vs neutral (did it when we were pushing it), and i had thought it was acting funny before (sometimes when stopping quickly it seemed like there was a load on the tc, i would only idle at like 4-500 rpms till i let off the brakes and rolled forward a bit then it would go to normal (6-700 rpms for my car). i really want to fix my car, i love it, but as for the cost... thats gonna take a bit, i mean i do only have a part time job (hopefully gonna be full time in the next week or so) but $1200 is alot for anyone to pay out of pocket.

and yes sally did ride in the car once so it is her fault (dad's dog, everythings her fault)
