How hard is it to change the fuel pump on the VG? Theres a Maxima for $500 that needs its fuel pump replaced. So I want to know whats involved and how much time I should expect to put it together.

 

you must take the bottom of the back seat out, then there is 3 bolts (10 MM or 12 MM i think).. then there is about 12 very small bolts (they are like 6 MM or 8 MM.. but not sure on the size) and the fuel pump is out!!!!...check other things than the fuel pump too, does the car start????

 

So the fuel pump is locate near the gas tank? Its located near the engine on my truck.

 

the fuel pump is right on top of the fuel tank.. actually half way submerged in the tank

 

on most fuel injected cars there is a pump in the tank.
only on a carburated vehicle will you find the fuel pump under the hood (diesels too)

 

Remove the back seats and you will find this cover,remove it

Remove hoses,screws on pump housing cover....

Viola!!...pump in hand..

 

why does your fuel pump only have 6 screws holding it down to the body??? i think mine has more

With us both living in Michigan, I can tell you yours is the one in good shape.

 

mine looked like it was brand new also........even with 230,000 miles on it

 

Boy, did I just post in the wrong thread! I just had my car in, and they wanted to replace the fuel pump, but didn't get the sending unit (which they said was all corroded, etc......

Michigan weather sucks!

Do either of you know how to get just a new sending unit, or is it best to just replace the whole thing?

 

Just buy the one you see in the pics above...

 

I think its time to replace my fuel pump , I am getting loud whistle / Buzzing noise , It hasent stoped for the past couple days now... Its sooo FING annoying , you can hear it out side and every thing it almost sounds like i have a loud Supercharger winding...

 

i dont think that is your fuel pump.... and dont you have a 1988 maxima???? if so it is a first gen maxima
