Kodak DC215; not too expensive and nice quality
I do wish I had variable shutter speed (for motion picks) and the ability to take short movies like a lot of other cameras do.

The software is kinda weird and I AM NOT happy with the way that the pictures have turned out.

Nope - I won't be in Jersey for either event since I've got an autocross on Sunday. I won't be at any import races any time soon, either, so I guess it'd be easier to ship the Z pads back to me :) I've got autocross races from now until late August with one or two free days (which I'll be relaxing!)

I've always preferred Sony digicams because of the size of the lens (size does matter ). A larger lense captures more light and results in a higher quality shot. My CD1000 has only 2.1 MP but it takes higher quality shots than other 2.1 MP cameras.
For amateurs, it's better that they not have control over the exposure, aperature, shutter, speed, etc. so most have auto modes. Some of the mid and top end cameras have both auto and manual modes.
My vote is for the Sony DSC S50 for the average person. Excellent camera for $400-450.
