Speedometer Acting up

hey guys. my speedonmeter has been acting up for a while. it'll just decide to work when it wants. when its "not working" it will read between 5-15mph when im going about 45-50. so technically its working, but not correctly. it will go on and off. when it would go off if i give the dash a good smack right above the console it would pop back on, but that hasnt been working lately. i would think its the speed sensor if it wasnt popping back on when i smacked the dash.

what do you guys think??

you can probably pull the cluster and look for a bad solder joint.
BUT you may have both a bad cluster and vehicle speed sensor.
someone else (don't recall who) went through several clusters that way. the sensor kept killing the cluster.
