Along the lines of higher compression pistons, extensive headwork, aggressive cams to say the least. However if the VG33E is swappable into our cars then with just bolt ons and cams it should put a VG auto around mid 15's no question. Then add a high stall convertor, VB mod, smaller drag tires and go for low 15's or 14's...

Ok, so with all the mods for a NA VG auto, chip, CAI, Y pipe, high-flow cat, and performance muffler, and without swapping engines, or stipping interior, what is the estimated total HP?

That really depends on waht HP the car was at before the mods, Im gonna say that stock the VG runs 1/4 approx
16.8 - 17.3 , with all those mods your gonna be in the low 16's, mabye high 15's, but instead of a muffler throw on a catback.

Well stock HP is @ 160, so in your estimation, how much do those mods increase hp?

heres something to work with....

Hojo is running 127 at the wheels and 150ish TQ, I think. the only performance mod he has is 2.5 catback. so basically I'd say the most you can get out of all the bolt-ons and a chip on a well mechanically maintained car is in the mid 140s to low 150's(I'm guessing)...one of the DC guys I know has cams, UDP, full exhaust, CAI, and a professionally tuned AFC(maybe some P/P but I can't remember) and I think he said he's making around 150+ hp at the wheels in his automatic! that should be good for borderline mid to high 15's I'm thinking....

Thanks for the info fellas... now what about the rating at the flywheel, if the hp at the wheels is 140s to 150s? Does the flywheel hp rating change or will it always be 160?

well.....

for autos stock HP at the wheels is most likely in the 120's(going by Hojos dyno) and stock flywheel HP is rated at 160. but yes flywheel HP increases with mods. IMO there is no exact way to tell how much at wheel HP each Max makes unless your on a dyno!

Very true, but I was just trying to get a rough estimation, so according to the scenarios provided, flywheel hp with all the bolt on mods and chip, should be about 173 (140 at the wheels) and 183 (high end with 150 at the wheels) right?

Damn,
I was hoping to be @ 200 hp with all the bolt on's and mods. My friend has a 92 Mitsubishi Diamante and the stock rated flywheel hp is 202...

Hey DA-Max, check out my post about the "Z" calipers, do you have any answers?

Yeah...

I'm not really sure about the % of HP lost through the drivetrain, but heres my guess....I'd think flywheel HP will be in the 180-190s(just a guess) with all bolt-ons, but if you figure in drivetrain loss it will be significantly lower! and unfortunately you won't get anywhere near 200 at the wheels with just bolt-ons, but everybody loves a little NITROUS!!!(hint, hint)

and about the brakes...to tell you the truth I'm DEFINENTLY not a "brake guy", so I can't really help you there, but I'm sure some of the other guys will have some input!

Ok. Thanks for the info, now do you think that the 180-190's if possible would be enough to keep up with, if not beat a stock Diamante?

I like to you 20% drivetrain loss with a stick and about 25% with an auto.

So..
VG Stick: 128 FWHP
VG Auto: 120 FWHP

Your also using number right out of the factory. Over years and years and miles and miles, engines lose compression amongst other things. Lower compression=lower HP.

If that is true.....

than the 2.5" catback alone made a 7 FWHP difference on Hojo's VG auto , but like you said years of wear and miles make each car virtually impossible to set exact FWHP to....I guess we can end it by saying 120-130hp+ for well maintained VG autos and sticks with the 5spd being the higher gainer......who knows???
