93' GXE Auto Climate Control light (On/Off) problem

In my 3rd generation Maxima 93 my Automatic Climate Control light "DISPLAY" (ACC) commonly fails. It will come on and off periodically or just not work at all & its hard to guess if im pressing hot or cold. Have any of you ever experience this in there car & how to fix this? I tried to search this but it says "I dont have permission to do this or something"!

Please help the Newbie & thanks in advance!

ooo

this is very common; very hard to find one that works

someone said that there was a fix, but it seems like it has to do with filaments burning out or something of that nature.

Are you talking about the lights in the buttons or is the digital display blanking out or going very dim?

The digital display, to be exact the light that you suppose to see the temp, how cold, hot, fan etc... its too hard to get a temp bec. I have to play around with it to just set it to hot as the weather is too cold (kidda a guesing game temp).

Please help im desperate!

Climate controll display blues

Mine does the same thing....I've been trying to figure that one out for a while. Most of the time it doesn't work, but other times When it does work it's like a little surprise party! (I also have stock digital speedo and Heads up display, when it's cold it takes a bit for the LED's to show...but when they do....agin, it's another little surprise party!) "MOST" or 90% of the tiny LED Lights that illuminate the "buttons" can be replaced, Assuming.... they can be found at a electronic surplus stores, They just twist in! EASY!

My best advice is to replace the unit with a "proven" working one...I was actually thinking of taking The Climate contoll display to a electronic repair GEEK, It may be just be a faulty transistor, but whatever it is...it's tiny and it will need professional electronic soldering.

p.s It's a Bugger to get that unit out! But don't be afraid to take it out and see how it tics....Ive done it so many times I can do it with my eyes closed.....

I have an appointment at the dealership & I just want them to check it out & find out what needs to be done & I will fix it myself if I can.

If fixing it yourself doesn't work out, I have a digital climate control unit I bought to do the manual to auto climate conversion (but never did) I'd be happy to part with.

How much are you asking for it? I probably need just the unit itself without the wirings.

heres the deal; somebody said craig brace figured it out. if anyone knows, its him.
dealership will just try to sell you one brand new for $500.

solid state devices are VERY sensitive to temperature.
ive had an auto ac that i could only see when it was 20 degrees or colder; the one i have now, though, always works unless it very cold...the display likes to freeze it seems. it will stay black or it will keep the old settings display registered...it could be an IC problem, so who knows.

im just glad i can see it finally!

I'm on Spring Break right now in the RVA but will be back in Fairfax next week (Monday at the absolute latest, as my classes restart on Tuesday). I'm in Alexandria every Tuesday night 6:30~9:30pm, so I could meet up with you after 9:30; or Thursday after 4:30pm (start of my weekend).

Hey, no biggie (after all, it was lying around before, it'll just continue to lie around). Everything working properly on it now?

Still willing to part with that?
I'm thinking of doing the conversion from manual to automatic myself. Unless there are more cons than pros. I noticed all the posts of everyone having problems with the automatic unit, but do you think this problem would still happen in a swap?

Sorry, already sold it on eBay to someone in Cali...and as for the manual to automatic conversion, it's quite involved (which is why I decided against it). Craig B's site should give you a pretty good indication of whether you'd be up to this job: http://www.geocities.com/cbmaxima/maxima/ACC/ACC.html As for the problems people experience with it, I think they'd happen regardless of whether it came stock or not; though with adding it now, there are lots of chances to screw things up with all the stuff you'd have to add/rework.
