product review: strong arm hood lift supports

just my 2 cents on these replacement hood lift supports (aka hood shock absorbers struts or gas charged thingies)

these buggers are a perfect fit and operate like butta!!!

the instructions aren't the best but all u really need to be sure to do is to install the locking safety pin in the ball socket - the pin is pretty small and can be lost easily if u're not paying attention...ahem...i mean so i've heard

the hood actually goes up higher which is nice.....smooth & controlled closing action.....best of all...these are the last pair i'll ever have to buy - thank you lifetime warranty!!...

i know i know....they're only hood struts but i'm so psyched about getting rid of the 1x3 prop

I've been thinking about changing mine out too. Do you have part numbers and pricing? As subs1000w asked, where did you get them?

partsamerica.com - free shipping to your door on orders over $50

the site is actually part of the advanced auto conglomeration - don't know the exact relationship and i don't care

the site gives u the local retailer which had the parts in an hour of my deposit.

i was gonna go for the monroe's but since they had the same warranty as the strong arm's i figure i'll save myself the 12 bucks for the pair.

p/n 4913 for the left and p/n 4914 for the right

that was the other thing that bothered me about the monroe's - one p/n for both sides...not sure how that can be - whatever -

but like i said, these are the last pair i'll ever buy thanks to the lifetime warranty - there's something very fiscally gratifying and reassuring about that for me

Just checked price for that on schucks.com (advancedauto), around 61 a piece. 122 plus tax for a pair.
I would no way buy them at that price.

that's pretty weird...i went to the site u listed and entered your zip code in WA and came up with the price u mentioned. then i cleared my cache and went back to that site and entered a NJ zip code and the price was less than half of the WA zip code.
that's just not right

Thanks for the additional info - my zip in S. Cal. came up with $61 a piece - kinda pricey, but the OEMs are over $100 each I think. Found them here (autopartsbylou.com) for $30 each. Not sure if this site is any good though.

has anyone tried entering a NJ zip code ( or any "cheap" zip) and then entering a different addy during the checkout process?

usually for west coast and east coast prices are different.... go onto kelly blue book and see what your car goes for in the east coast, and see what it gores for in the west coast

for a 1992 maxima SE fully loaded automatic with 100k miles on it will go for $4,595 in the east coast.... west coast goes for $5,095

yea but thats cars. Conditions are diffrent so prices will be diffrent. But wtf is the problem with fixing the same car in a diffent state with the same part and manufactuer and getting charged 1.5 times the normal price....

i was hoping maybe ur experience could shed some light on the price differential. any idea why retailers do this? i don't know where their main parts distribution center is but do u think they inflate the west coast prices to cover shipping costs?

I think it boils down to the cost of shipping/location

I have seen it where the same company charges different prices in the same city. the pricing varied by the neighborhood. the better neighborhood (with it's higher property values) cost more.

I see it with walmart, when I go to lake geneva the prices are cheaper than my local wal mart.
not on all items but some of them
