Stuck in 1st when cold!!

If my engine is cold and I start it up and shift into first, I'll let out the clutch and try to go and the car won't budge. It'll try to move, but it's like the brakes are on or something, and it's just trying to push forward but can't. Then I'll push in the clutch again, shift into neutral and back into first and everything is fine. What's happening?

BTW, I do know that my clutch fluid (DOT 3) was low awhile back and I filled it right back up and it's still full. I don't think fluid is a problem, I used some high quality DOT 3, so it's not cheapo brand or anything. Any ideas?
Thanks a ton guys, you rule!

change or put in thinner fluid. When its cold out the fluid thickens and doenst lube up the shifter and gears egnough. My 240 and maxima do this.

What kind of fluid do you suggest? And I'm assuming you're talking about the DOT 3, right? Also, I am running full synthetic oil.

No the oil in the tranny. I just run the napa generic GL4 stuff, but when I replace my pass. axle in the spring im swtiching to MT-90 or lucas oil. 75w-90. im not sure what my 240 takes though. Id like to know if its fluid has ever been changed...

No, it only does it in first, sometimes it takes a second to get into reverse when just starting up the engine, but I think that's typical when it's cold. The sticking in gear and not moving, though, is only in first.

How hard is it to change the tranny fluid by the way?

there is a screw type thingy that you need to get a socket or a wrench on... it is on the drivers side near the front of the tranny, but the plug is facing the drivers side tire, not the front of the vehicle
