HAI Setup

I've decided that I want an hai for my VE. Can I just buy the MAF adapter on ebay and slap a 3 inch k&n cone onto this? Is that all, or do I need other tubing?

I'd REALLY love to see some hai setup PICS!! Anyone have any on the VE?

Thanks a ton!

I've heard that the Ebay adapters don't fit right but that was a while ago, as far the matterials pretty much all you need is the adapter and the filter and your done. This has been covered alot in the past so if you search you will find tons of info on it, as far as pictures check out cardomain there should be plenty there.

don't know if the same thing applies to the VE intake, but for my VG, the MAF adapter made for the 300zx fits perfect, except that it was made out of cheap plastic and are cracking right now. I also got an aluminum universal one that came with the cone filter, it will fit, but you will need to do some modding to make it actually seal around area where the surface of the adapter mates with the MAF. There is also a metal "adapter" that is attached to the stock air box, just remove it, cut the lip around edge that is bevelled out with a muffler cutter, or a large 2-3" pipe cutter and you got yourself a MAF adapter.

So are the ebay ones ok then?

Also, what K&N filter do you recommend? The 3" cone? I know there are different lengths, too, any idea on what fits best?

OK, I just bought a MAF adapter on ebay, it's metal, though.

I hope this one will work. Now I need to decide on what size K&N I want. I don't really know what size will fit, should I just make some measurements maybe, or is there a common size and shape used by us VE guys?

You should have just bought the one from Jeff for $1 more. He does quality work and will stand behind it.

Do not use the filter that comes with that Ebay one, BTW. I am sure it is made of the cheapest foam they could find in Hong Kong.

Also, there is a chance that the MAF adapter you bought won't fit. I bought a similar item about 3 years ago (right when I first joined .org) and it was too small. I think it was designed for a Sentra or Altima, even though everything said it was for an 89-94 Max. Anyway, the guy would refund my money if I sent it back, but wouldn't refund the shipping. I didn't even bother with it and had one made by the long-forgotten, infamous LittlePiggie.

I think most univeral 3" filters will fit when you use the stock midpipe, but the most common K&N is the RU-2820. For a good deal on a new one, talk to Brian at Berk Technology. He is a sponsor and the site is:
