Why didn't you just drive the thing?

That's the fun of owning a car -- actually driving it.

Yeah, I freaking HATE VTCs. That is the only thing that really bothers me about these. My newer JDM engine has some VTC tick.

When MattComet came down here to help with the tranny swap, I realized how much louder it is, too. He was driving a VG 5-speed and his engine was quiet. Oh, well. I guess that's the price you pay for 30 extra hp.

Good luck with the car, it's a nice looking one.

Comparing the dyno chart of a VG vs a VE might make you feel even better. These are both from Matt93SE's cars. (VG is long gone) VE makes power as it revs, VG loses it. The VG made about 125hp at 5600rpm. The VE, on its best run, made about 172hp.

I was ---><--- this close to making a trade this week, but the guy backed out at last minute.

I don't really want to sell the Max, since I will never get back what I put into it. I might consider trading for something in the same scenario. Just has to be the right car.

I really loved my 3rd gen and still have the daughter's 3rd gens, but I really love my 4th gen too. Overall it is a nicer car but maybe not as quick from 80 up.

The VG's are asthmatic. They just can't breathe well for all that torque it;s spittin out. That is where DOHC is owning SOHC technology within the third gens. I would still like to see a VG-T go against a VE-T with similar setups. It's torque vs HP.

I don't think that I am following you. The VE made more torque at 2,000 rpm than the VG did at its peak. It appears to me that the VE not only makes more hp, it makes more tq at a fast idle than the VG does ever.

HP= TQ*RPM/5250. It isn't that the VG "just can't breathe well for all that torque it;s spittin out." The VG can't breathe well so it doesn't produce enough torque, especially at high rpms, to make any power. See?

OK I was a little misguided. If you look at the charts (which I assumed you did)the VE get it's second wind at 4.4k rpm. That is close to where the VG curve runs out of breath. With the second wind the VE gets the HP numbers climb but the VG can't produce anything other than a very lovely sound. That is why I called the VG astmatic as it As you notice at around 4k rpm the numbers are close but then the VE and takes over. I am guessing that is the advantage that DOHC has over the SOHC design in these motors along with intake design (viariable) and VTC technology. Besides the power curve the VG gives off = hella tq steer for a quick second when air is sufficient. That is why I want to see a VG and VE go head to head at a track with close to similar mods. That will be a nice little run as I am seeing the VG making massive torque and the VE making more HP and close to equal tq (in comparison to the hp numbers) also.

uhhh... a VE owns a VG across the board

edit:

There would be no competition between a boosted VE and VG in otherwise stock form. The VG does not have enough cam to breathe up top.

Also the VG has a powervalve aswell.

btw, congrats on the car, sad to see Mike let it go but it's served him well and will do the same for you

I've always loved his car, it's very clean and has a lot of time/work put into it.

As for Mike, I'm still jealous
