Problem Removing E-Brake (Drum)

I've got the rear struts out, but they are still connected via the e-brake cable/ They are drums, like I said. Can't seem to get the buggers disconnected. The screws that hold the metal piece come off, but the cable is still connected. The FSM says something about loosening the cable at the lever, but I don't see how that would disconnect it w/o pulling the whole cable out. Who can help?
