I have to hold the key in the position of " Ignition" for 3 seconds to start my Max. It makes a harsh sound when starting. What could be the problem?

Distributor? or an old battery? Thanks for thoughts.

My first thoughts would be go threw the ignition...Distributor,wires,plugs...Then check battery then if you need more check the starter it might be getting ready to go out.
