you mean brakes?

cheap = better brake pads

a little more expensive = pads + brembo blank rotors (better quality, hopefully less fade)

somewhat expensive = Q45 2 piston calipers or z31 iron 4 pistons BBK

quite expensive = z32 aluminum calipers or skyline calipers BBK

with z32 or skylines, you need big enough wheels to fit the BBK.

The Z32's aren't that expensive if you don't mind them being ugly.

If you just want better stopping, get some good pads and fluid. And don't forget your best bet for better braking, better tires.

oops, my bad. early in the morning. I meant z32.

For a car (3rd gen Maxima) that is worth about $2k-$3k, spending about $500 for z32 brakes is "quite expensive."

There are a few people, like Jeff, Danny, Matt, Mizeree, etc. that have had cars worthy of a BBK.

buying a car for $500 then paying $500 plus for stuff like that seems expensive

i just bought a Z32 for $500 and its kind of hard dishing out more than i paid for the car for simple stuff... oh well, its worth it.

Z32 brakes are pretty nice, just be sure to get wheels that clear them. 17's will height wise, but you must be certain that the spokes will clear.

15's will clear the diameter, and stockers will clear with a large spacer.

I know 15s can clear a 12" rotor but most companies want 4" larger wheels to clear rotors

do th q45 caliper brackets bolt up to the 3rd gen hub w/o modifications?
do they clear most all wheels?
i've been considering these brakes as the z32 brakes aren't worth getting special wheels for imo.

pretty much all nissan calipers bolt in place of one another, the problem is offset and rotor diameter

I have access to 1 q45 and also 2 or 3 z31's and 1 z32, im not sure if the z32 has the front brakes.
I can get anything off them for cheap as heck cus i work there.
ANyways

off the q45, what all can i use? will i need to upgrade the brake booster or the lines or the rotors as well as the calipers. How much better are teh callipers anyways.

same question with the z31.

Is there anything else i can use off the q45, its complete with motor and everything. just has an auto tranny i think

asking the same stupid questions over and over is worth bannination.

you get thrown in jail by said cops if you continuously speed through a school zone and say you didn't see the sign.

you have our deepest sympathy, it's not like we've talked about this before... multiple times.

Think of it as a supplement to your FSM

And websites of this size aren't exactly cheap to keep running.

No problem though, just keep asking questions and waste our bandwidth and time. No sense in helping out a site that has helped you.

quite expensive = z32 aluminum calipers
I actually consider it quite inexpensive. For the components you get it is very cheap compared to an equivalent aftermarket big brake quick. Most of those kits are well over $1,000 and are usually for the front brakes only at that price.

We actually ended up being pretty lucky with this option as we get high quality big brake kit stopping power but a very minimal cost.

Jeff's hubcentric rings and brackets - $90
Z32 aluminum calipers, fully loaded from internetautomart.com - around $250 (important to know... he sells the calipers outright. there is NO core charge. that is some major savings compared to buying these from most other companies).
Cobra rotors from internetautomart.com - If memory serves, they're around $100 for Brembo blanks (please correct me if I'm wrong)

So, so far we're at $440

Another 50-70 for the SS lines that Matt sells (still have some right, Matt?) and you're at right around $500 dollars for a 13 inch front brake setup with 4 piston aluminum calipers.

There's an upgrade for the rears as well using Z31 rotors and I believe the cost is no more than roughly 200-300. You'd need brackets, Z31 rotors (86 I believe was supposed to be the best year for them), and depending on which production year Maxima you have you might need the rear caliper setup (I want to say pre-10/90 Maximas needed the later caliper setup.

Basically in the end, you can have a full big brake setup for less than $1,000 dollars. That is extremely low cost. To find a front and rear big brake setup for that price in the aftermarket would likely require searching for used kits.

Did any of you guys use the hard lines that connect from the Z32 calipers to the flex lines or just replace the entire brake lines with Matt's custom lines? I picked up a set of aluminum z32 caliper from a coworker and they included the small hard lines connected to a set of SS z32 lines. Can I ditch the hard line? Thanks

The lines on the Z32 are designed a bit differently than on our cars. It threw me off at first but they actually have a hard line between the hose and the caliper, unlike our cars where its a hard line, hose, then caliper.

If Matt still has the conversion lines, just buy a set from him and use those and take the hard lines off of the Z32 calipers you have.

Yes, I buy those lines by the hundred. ditch the hard lines. (or post them up on tt.net for anyone that needs a set to repair/go back to stock)

Thanks for the help. I'll check out Matt's site when I'm ready to buy. I need to get ahold of a set of 17" rims before going any with the brake project.
