Manual transmission questions.
ive got an 89 se with 155k
shifts good for its age and miles, but ive drivin another max that shifted ultra smooth.
I lost the shifter spring already thats directly under the shifter, the shift linkage spring. Where can i order it from or get one from. will one off any other 5spd nissan work?
also whats the best transmission fluid to run in my transmission, for smoothness and for good performance. not just some generic fluid. I dont want to spend a fortune either.
also where is teh manual tranny drain plug to confirm, i cant remember.
finnaly, my tranny is leaking fluid where the shift linkage goes into the trannsmission. where the rubber boot thing is. is there something inside there i can change or what is the fix for that leak, whats the part name i need.
thanks guys, thats all my tranny questions.

i cant find the spring anywhere, all of them are too long.
ive searched at every parts store, they dont know what im talking about or the part, but they pointed me to the isle where all the oops stuff is, general replacement parts, and all of them ive seen are too long.
what the upside to redline?
how many quarts do you put in? whats teh best way to fill the tranny as well.

thats why I said HARDWARE store.
redline is one of the top rated gear oils, no clue how much it takes, I don't mess with manual trannies
my rear diff is getting MT90 when I put it in (hopefully soon)

http://www.nissanforums.com/showthread.php?t=92318 I fill my trannys until it is up to the fill hole, which IICR is about four quarts. You will probably have to crack to case for that leak. I run redline oil, and a few of my high hp FWD friends swear that it has made their trannies last longer and shift smoother.
sigh, if you bothered to check the fluids and lubricants section, the redline he's referring to is gl4 gear oil. 90weight is ideal i believe. the drain plug is located next to the linkage input. look around, you'll find it. the filler hole uses a 1/2" ratchet head to pull the plug, and it's located on the side of the trans facing the front bumper, near the drivers wheelwell. i have found out that a pump is ideal to refill the trans, as it is very difficult to get a long neck funnel in the sideways hole.
search for the service manual too. it's not hard to find at all. simply read the effing stickies at minimum instead of just blindly asking questions. we're here to help, but we're not going to hold your hand and wipe your butt because you're too lazy to spend a few minutes looking.
