what the heck is this?

hey guys and gals! can anyone tell me what is this part in the engine bay?(the arrow points to it). This morning i saw a hose disconnected from it.

The picture doesn't show. But I will tell you that it is the surge tank.

ok

ok i have the Haynes book , but they dont say anything about the surge tank. can you explain or taell me what it does and is it bad that the hose got disconnected

Basically it has to do with the power valve and it opens under different vacuum conditions for the manifold to perform better. (someone correct me if I am wrong)
