Tranny Leaking...Grrrrr

Well, my swap is working fine so far except today I noticed that the passenger side axle seal is leaking! It is a new axle seal straight from Nissan. It seems to be leaking around the inner ring between the shaft and seal. There is a metal lip on the shaft that it's kind of leaking around...I'll post a pic later.

Other minor issue is the starter doesn't always switch on the first try...You have to twist the key a couple times...The bolt and/or net that hold the battery connection to the starter is stripped so it's not tightened all the way down.

Anyway, I'd like to get these issues taken care of next weekend. I just want to know why the hell my new seal is leaking!

Pretty sure it's the same seal I removed...Also the leak if relatively small, but having to watch and refill a manual tranny is a PIA. It's alway gotta be somethin'

do you fill through the speed sensor hole? Thats easy. Just have to get 2 funnels or cut oil quart containers.

looks like your seal's hanging halfway out. from what i remember it should be just about flush with the hole. can you push it in? hope the axle is in all the way, this is the passenger side?

I agree. It may just be the flange but its possibly not in all the way.

The outer part of the ring is flush with the bell housing. It has a rubber lip which is what comes in contact with the metal piece. I got under the car and prodded at it with a tool. More oil would come out when I pushed the rubber lip in.

It looked like more then that lip. I tought that was the cause or the pic was just blurry. it may be a bad seal, or the axle may be scratched on the OD. GL

Im guessing you did a swap from an auto to a manual? If so did are you sure you got the right axle?

The axles are the same. he got a VG tranny so any VG axle will work.
