Warpspeed Y-pipe Leaking

I bought the y-pipe from warpspeed that doesn't use a flex section. Instead it uses some strange joint with springs. I can't remember what it is called though.

Anyway, my y-pipe leaks at the joint. Anyone have this same problem? Anyone know how to fix the leak?

I tightened the joint but it didn't do much.
It's not rusted, just looked at it this weekend.
I'm thinking the problem may be with the design of the joint.

call warspeed and see what they say. they stopped selling these "superflow" y-pipes for some reason a few months ago. GL

If it doesn't stop leaking I would clean the joint and use some copper RTV

call them and ask though

that joint design doesn't use a gasket and the rtv will come right out as it flexs.

the only solution is a REAL flex piece in there. if that design had actually been usable you don't think an OE would have used it on some car?

Thats what I figured... poor design. Had I thought about this before hand, I would have just bought a regular flex section y-pipe. Now that I think about it this thing is probably gonna break some studs soon because its so rigid.
Anyone ever cut and weld a flex section on?

Honda uses it on their 4 cylinder exhaust collector section.

Yes. You had better make sure it's at least this long. Anything shorter will be too stiff and you will keep breaking flex sections. Also if you use this long one, you might have to go to a shorter 4 gen cat or cut out length somewhere else. Also note ball-joint style flanges. Best flanges on the market. No gaskets and sealed excellent everytime.

as a flex section?
I've seen them used as joints on old chevies, the fwd setup tends to need more flex

Those area pain because it's hard to weld in a small circle. I just tack weld it in 2-3 places securely. Then used a 2-part expoxy to make a bead around to seal it. It's the stuff you use to fix punctured metal drums etc... Comes in a stick. You break a piece off and knead it until mixed. The spread it around.

Where did you get the ball flanges?

I've been looking for a while for some but havent had much luck finding anything, and you're right they're good flanges! I'm jealous that my all my brother's Honda stuff uses those gaskets and I'm stuck with the cruddy 2 bolt flanges that leak like crazy no matter what I do

My local header fabricator has them. Not cheap but very worth it in the end. Especially for the number of times I took off the exhaust system.
