And see post #110 in case you decide to get ignorant...
I'm referring to the General car as a whole. Not just 1/4 times. It just has a different feel than all the other Maximas. Like Dmonstza said, he sold his 4th Gen because his 3rd Gen just had a better all around feel & spirit. There's is just something about them. Don't get me wrong either, I love the 4th Gens, I'm actually buying one this summer. There is things better on the 4th Gens & Vice Versa. They didn't come with LSD's stock, Variable Valve Timing, or a Variable Intake Manifold. But 3rd Gens are heavier, Iron-Block. etc. There is some trade offs, but I still just like the 3rd Gens better. It's all on opinion really.

Cant you guys just stop fighting lol..I love both generations..I think the usual thing is to update/upgrade as things get newer. Yea somethings on the 4th gen could've been done differently as to there being quite a resemblence powerwise with the previous gen 92+ SE. I originally wanted 4th gen but couldn't afford one so I got a 3rd gen which I never liked and now I love it, yes its not fast but it sure is reliable as hell and a lot faster than my Accords. Have fun, enjoy yours Maximas, they're all very special in there own ways whether 1,2,3,4,5 or 6th gen

Personaly, I've seen better numbers done by M/T, but since this R&T is all I have, I'll use this. In an old M/T I use to have the 3rd gen pulled a very nice .86g, so there seems to be quite a gap between mags and testing situations. I also find it really strange that the 4th gen is over 4 mph faster according to post #110. Come on VQ guys, lets see something more then words.

Nope.. It either wasn't around long enough or they didn't like something about it.

They probably saw into the future that the VTCs would become an issue

Like i said before, driving feel < data and awards.

I've noticed that most of the people that argue that the 3rd gen > 4th gen cite intangible differences like "feel" or "soul"...nothing definitive or solid. Sure SOME of the interior pieces might not have been put together as well, but there is so much more to a car than that.

For the record, i'm not saying that the 4th gen is better than the 3rd blah blah blah. I just want to hear some hard evidence as to why the 3rd gen is better.

Most 3rdGen owners, myself included, feel that the 3rdGen Maxima was something special. It was representative of Nissan at its peak. A Nissan that did not cut corners, shrink R&D budgets, and skimp on build quality. The 3rdGen was ahead of its time. From a variable intake manifold to a variable valve timing, the 3rdGen set the standard that its competitors strived and failed to make.

The 3rdGen represented the best of what Nissan had to offer and that is why passion for it still burns over 12 years later. Sure, the 4thGen may post subjectively /arguably better performance numbers. But it was a downsized car designed by a company that was by that point fighting for its life. It lacks the panache and uniqueness of the 3rdGen. It lacks the style and soul of the 3rdGen. Indeed, while a 3rdGen still stands out in the crowd with its timeless styling, the 4thGen just blends in with the rest of the bland sedans out there like the Taurus, Camry, and Accord.

You ask for hard facts as to what makes a 3rdGen great and point to the 4thGen's arguably superior performance. I say that if you bought a Maxima for performance, you were misled for it is not a performance car. It is a family sedan. Sadly, the 4thGen has become the chariot of high schoolers. The VE 5spd lives on as the Maxima for discerning Nissan enthusiasts who value quality, a dash of performance, styling, and uniqueness in their cars.

You can have your 4thGen. I am sticking with my VE 5spd. Good day, sir.
