stall, start, CEL... code 55
stall, start, CEL... code 55
Occasionally, now and again my max will stall at idle... or just going down the road... I can restart it immediately, and usually it'll throw a Check Engine Light after I restart it. But every time I check it, I get a code 55. I mean, within 10 seconds of the light flashing, I click the ign into acc (from running), and then back to on so i can run diag, turn the screw, and I get a 55.
Also, when accelerating at heavier throttle, I *may* lose all power. Until I clutch and drop the RPM down to idle, give it a rev to make sure she'll play, and then accelerate out. This will not produce a CEL.
I'm thinking ignition coils.
I replaced the MAF about a month ago, new fuel & air filters last week, 10k on the plugs (copper)... I have been run a few tanks of 87 since Hampton Roads, VA is completely out of anything better...
I guess I just want someone to say it could be something cheaper than coil packs.

More than likely the coils, but there are other possibilities. I found when my coil packs were acting up, it did not throw a code.
Have you taken them out and checked for cracks? Cracked ones can cause idle problems.
However, even ones that look perfect can be faulty.

At an average of 30,000 miles a year, I knew the day would come that I could not keep them going any longer.

My tape fix didn't last long either.
..They may also be failing internally....
