should I paint my calipers???

I have a burgundy/maroon '89 GXE and wanted to dress up my calipers by having them professionally painted. I know red is the usual color most people opt with for a sporty look, but I'm not so sure I want it to be that flashy. SO...would it look weird if I had them painted to match the burgundy??? What about black, just to make it look new and clean-looking? Opinions welcome, thanks...

Diy

I recently painted mine black just to freshen it up with the new rotors I installed. I am totally happy with the results. And yes, you can do it yourself. Huge improvement!

bluemax, that is an absolutely beautiful rotor. The caliper looks nice too, but without the rotor it would just look like... well... like you painted your caliper.

What are the specs on that rotor? Brand, price, etc...

I'm in the market for some brakes... get rid of that skaking issue....

I have always liked silver for calipers. I did mine and it turned out nice. I took all the stuff off I could and painted it then baked it in the oven following instructions for temp and time.

The rotors I bought are Centric blanks. I like the black "E-Coating" they use on the center and vents (prevents rusting). The surface finish looks great new, but once you start using the brakes, it will look like any other rotor. They are a big improvement over the stock 17 year old rotors.

I got them from http://www.propartsusa.com/, but I had to call them to order for my car (not shown on the web site). It was about $120 shipped for the pair. It might be more to ship to VA. Had an excellent experience with these guys. Brembo blanks are cheaper and were my second choice.

They are Ro_Ja Formula 5 wheels. Extremely light forged 18s. Sorry to inform you that you cant (well I shouldnt say cant...just difficult) get them though. They were discontinued about two years ago and I got them cheap because of that. If you are lucky and look real hard you might find some. I did find a seller that had 4 left that would fit but he wanted $250 each I believe. Mine came white and I painted them the silver color they are now.

I sold the car to another member here (Pervis Anathema) last year about this time.

I knew one of these threads would come up sooner or later so I never made one but I also have a question.

First of all Bluemax your brakes look awesome in black, I'm thinking about just doing that which brings me to my question. I never did do that rear disc conversion like I wanted to, would you guys still advice me to paint my front calipers and even though I have non in the rear ?

Thanks Colombian. I want to do the rear disc conversion too someday, but for now, I just took off the drums and painted them black too. It's better than nothing!

Alright, I guess that's fair enough but I'd have to do it when my drums are gone cuz my current ones are rusted like crazy on the outside and I mean rusted...I tried cleaning them with a wire brush on my drill but even that didnt clean it up like new

ONLY if you paint them black. That looks good...other colors stick out way too much for drums. you want to hide the fact you have drums not display it. Black makes them look factory and much nicer than rust.

Have you guys checked the advertisement out on the main maxima.org page? Here's a link http://www.solmia.com/

They don't have third gen years listed, does anyone know if 4th gen calipers are the same?

Seriously? I didn't think they were ricey in the least. Far less then bright yellow calipers on anything short of a porsche. But at over 100 bucks US a set, I'll definatley be passing on these...

Hey personally i like the way they say Maxima on them...and look wise I like them but I kinda have to agree with Brian on the whole dual piston thing. Do you guys know if they have em in a normal style that still says Maxima?

Wow a refrigerator magnet for brake calipers. I bet these things will fall off after a fair amount of normal driving due to brake dust and road dirt.

nope not these...they discontinued them a couple of years ago...trust me I have looked high and low for another set and every place I call says they discontinued them...except for the one I mentioned that had one set left. They make Ro_Jas still but not the formula 5 like the ones in that pic. Maybe you have an old magazine (I have some from a couple of years ago that have them advertised). You can find the formula 7s pretty frequently. Believe it or not you can find both the 5s and 7s in 4 lug patterns (figure that would be more popular and not be left).

Of course I know where he lives I sold him the car lol...of course I realize you were probably putting that there for the benifit of others. PA still posts on here and the car is in his sig. He just doesnt post a lot.
