dash bulb colors
hey i was just wondering if anyone had changed the bulbs in their dash gauges. i want either a dark blue or a deep red, i just need to know what bulbs to buy and bulb socks to get these colors, or any other cool color yall have found.
Bulbd
The stock bulbs are 194s (3.5W). If you want to upgrade to brighter bulbs, you want the 168s (5W). You can buy colored 194 bulbs at most auto parts stores.
However, I had bad luck with a set of green GE 194 bulbs. The color was slightly different on each bulb and it looked terrible. One part of the cluster was deep green, the other part looked more yellow, and one part actually looked about right.
If anyone knows where you can buy the bulb socks, please let me know. Its gotta be a lot cheaper to buy 4 regular 168s for about $4 and get blue bulb socks than shell out $16-$20 for Hyperwhite 168s.

I have 2 hyper red bulbs on the sides and 2 hyper white bulbs in the middle. It's cool b/c the red lights up the red line of the tach and the fuel gauge while the speedometer has a bluish white tint. I think I bought all 4 bulbs (#194/168 are the same) from www.autotoys.com, and I recall it being quite pricey, especially considering they screw you on shipping. It looks very cool though.
As for installation, you don't remove the needles. You actually remove the whole guage cluster. Which brings me to another point --> If you have GXE gauges (black faces), then no matter what color bulbs you buy, you won't be able to see them. It'll only turn out a brighter shade of green. That's why you have to buy SE gauges. As for removal of the cluster, it's been posted before, so do a search. Hope this helps.
