94 se running like crap

So it rained its *** off yesterday. Today I get up and take my girl home and everything its fine. I am at her house for about a hour and come back out to leave, I start my car and get a check engine light along with a rough idel. I had a similar feeling last year when I went through a big puddle. And that problem gradually went away, but it also didnt thow a engine light at the time. It is also rough running when I am accelerating and smooths out a little in higher rpm's. Any feedback? Did something get wet?

well first thing I would do is check the ECU to find out what the code is since you got a check engine light. Then go from there. Anything else is just guessing and there could be a number of things.

Ok so I checked the ecu and it put out 5 flashes then 1 flash. So a 51 is injector analysis.

considering you were at your girlfriend's house for about an hour, let's hope something got wet

but seriously, sounds like and ignition problem, injector, coils, maybe you're not getting a spark. find out which cylinder is missing first then narrow down the cause.

You have a bad fuel injector. Search the org for more info. If it is on cyl 1,3,5 you will have to pull the intake plenum to get at the fuel rail in the back. If it is cyl 2,4,6 you got lucky, and the plenum doesn't have to come off. NubianNupe posted a injector replacement procedure in one of the FAQ's. Check the stickies.

Hmm. I've got the same thing (runs rough after it's been run for a while, is shut down and starts up) going on with my 94 SE. What's wierd here is that sometimes my fuel pump also runs on after the engine is shut down. I end up having to disconnect the negative battery cable.

I will try to decipher the ECU code -- I am getting a check engine light at times. But I am still puzzled over why the fuel pump runs on.

Thank you.

Jim

Good question. It's coming from the pass/side fender area. sounds like a pump that's running. If it is ABS, what does that mean?

Thank you.

Besides running your battery down,i don't think it will hurt anything...

I would just unplug it at the actuator...Your abs light on the dash will stay on after you do though...

You could take the cluster out and pull the bulb to remedy that...
