on my way to work today
im cruising down the high about 65 miles an hour and my car sputters badly
5-10 seconds later sounds like something blew up or fell off

i look at my tach and the car is still running soo i get off at the exit and try and pull into a restaurant

popped the hood and something blew threw my rear vavle cover

and i dont see my timing chain on the gear any more

wtf just happened??

what are the prices for a JDM VE??

im soo lost right now
i have no idea what to do about my car

thanks

You don't see the chain on the gear? So I assume something blew off the rear valve cover (ie.. broke off the front end of it) and you can see the cam gears w/ no chain? You probably broke the chain and it whipped up and broke your cam cover.

Check with JDM engine importers in your area. Or ebay VE30DE. Prices range from $800-$1200.

Sorry to hear. I've been there though. TWICE!

Ask matt who he recommends DOWN there to buy from.

but if a manufacturer lists VG30DE be VERY careful. if it's used just ask them if it came out of a maxima, or even better get the VIN

If the company is close to you, I would go there and inspect it, anyway. VEs are unique and you will know if it is the engine they say. Plus, you can look it over.

If you have a truck and an engine hoist (at the place where you will be installing it) a lot of places will sell it cheaper or not charge shipping if you pick it up.

Good luck...

That really does him no good though since he has a VE and you have a VG. A swap is possible but not worth the hassle for a less powerful engine.

ouch...I hope he is taking care of the replacement. The 92-94 SE had a VE30DE motor which had 190 HP. all GXEs and 89-91 SEs had the VG30E which had 160 HP. Good luck in your partout or whatever you are going to do.

That is not even enough to cover a 1/1000 payment

I am in the same place, looking for a new(used jdm engine) Ebay had 2-3 for sale for 699-899 + shipping. I am searching online as I am typing this.

Looks like I managed to break some teeth on the cam/or timing chain is coming loose. Either way the engine makes a weird loud clanking noise that sounds like someone tossed metal bits in there. really something you never want to hear in your life.

What ever happened to VE's being 'reliable' and timing chains never needing to be replaced?

Poor oil = Clogged oil feeders = unlubricated metal = hot metal = SNAP = Engine go BANG, Boom, CLunk.

"Remans" = some old junk yard MAXIMA had a engine torn out of it. They do a stress test and bore clean it, deck it and build it.

Nissan must have a host of fresh engines some where.

Well, after searching this subject i have concluded that there WAS a maxima in japan during the same time frame as our 3rd gen maxima, with the same engines as it's domestic counterpart..When the 3rd gen was replaced with the 4th gen design, japanese maximas were renamed cefiro..

This info was gathered from searching old threads, and i am not sure of it's accuracy...

The cam timing sprockets wear out at around 100-150K causing extra stress on timing chains, heavy use then breaks chains which is catastrophic. Someone needs to build repacement cam drive gears that will last, the rest of these engines are pretty bullet-proff

no 3rd gen cefiros were cefiros

i think thye were 88/89 - 9?

different motors, drive trains, bodies.

When the 4th gen came out that was when the cefiro switched platforms in japan and therefore some parts are interchangable.

There was no maximas in japan, specially wiht ve30DE's

naw i think they are ripping people off to be honest

i think ti was matt or jeff that said one VE they got wiht supposdly under 30,000 miles had a water pump full of rusty crud and the waterjackets were coated in it too.

anywhere you search for VE it is listed only for 92-94 maxima's.

Even in most ebay auctions you see it says "out of a japenese maxima"

as in the turn signal or the corners
if you look at mine
my signals are cleared
you can take a reflector out to make it look like that
as for the corners
you can get them on ebay for about 30 bucks

edit: i also painted my signals black to match every thing else

aussy are proly the same as UK and they have ":carrot signals" as wiking put it.

gen3blu - iof you mean the ones on the very front and not the "corner" lights (by the headlight) then you can buy a set from anyone parting a car out in the US or canada. Both of them are clear fronts.
