The grooves are cut to allow brake dust to escape the rotor. As the dust builds up between the pads and rotors, it creates more heat and a higher chance to warp the rotors. By having the slots on the front rotors face the front of the car you are actually forcing the dust into the rotor not away from it. You'll want the slots on the front rotors facing the rear of the car.

very true the gas and the dust that is produced from heavy braking causes less stoppage, so the grooves in the rotor should face back to move the gas away and off of the rotor face so the pad and stay seated on the surface=better braking. the slots also cut the pads to keep a clean surface on the pads
