Hey guys, well I just bought my 1990 Nissan Maxima GXE today.. and I'm very excited, it seems like an awesome car, but I have some questions I'm hoping you all could help me out with.. first of all, do you guys know if it's normal for these cars to get very warm around the hood and have fans going for about a minute after you turn them off? I probably should have had my car inspected before buying it, but it seems like they took good care of it, but this is concerning me a bit.. Also, I'm probably going to be modifying it some, adding some rims, dropping it, etc. and I have a few questions: Could you guys reccommend a good amount to drop the car when I decide to do it, what exhausts/intakes would you guys reccomend, and what is a good website to go to, or is it better to go to local stores to get parts? Thank you all in advance for any help on these things..

Oh yeah, also, does anyone know where I can find some Halogen lights for my Maxima (In general I mean... like do I have to go to a performance store or just a general car parts store) I'm specifically interested in the ones with a bluish tint.. one more thing... what do you guys think about this deal: The above car.. 110k miles, $4000.. think I got ripped or was that a good deal? I'd say good or fair condition (some paint scratches, power antenna broken..) Errr, I'm sorry and one more question: Anyone know how much it costs to fix these power antennas?

Yes, it's normal for them to be warm around the hood but not extremely hot. What do you mean by, "have fans going for about a minute after you turn them off?" You can't turn the fans on or off. The radiator fans go on automatically because they are on sensors and keep the car from over heating. If you mean after you shut off the car then that is not normal. Get it checked out! Last thing you want is for the car to overheat. I know some cars are like that but not Nissan Maximas. About mods, my cars are stock but I'm sure somebody else will help you. Or you can view other threads and pick up some info on modifying your car. Good Luck and Congrats with your Max!!!

the fan thing is perfectly normal, dont worry about that at all! the drops for the third gen range from 1.2" to 1.8" so its really up to you, how low you wanna go. there's a couple exhausts and intakes you may wanna go with. all this has been discussed before, so you may wanna do a search for it. many of us have personal homepages that you may wanna check out. www.warpspeedperformance.com has the exhaust/intake stuff for ya, for excellent prices too. the lights can be bought just about anywhere.

Well if you haven't had it inspected yet, that would be the first thing I would do. Also, if you would like a CarFax run (background check), I would be happy to do that for you. Just send me a Private message or email me the VIN#.

lrdrandall@yahoo.com

Read the FAQ on the main page to get some general information https://maxima.org and have fun with your new car! Oh yeah, check out the sticky messages on the top of this page for some great info on suspensions and what not.

James92SE are you sure that the fans should do that? It seems to me like they rigged it so the car won't overheat. I have owned several Maximas and I have never experienced that. Maybe California Maximas work different.

A search will provide a lot of help. Like James said, this has all been asked before. I do agree, check out Warpspeed. They have really great prices for the products that they offer. When it comes to modding, we have some options available, but nowehere near the amount that you will find for Hondas (friggin riceboys). Maximas are nice cars but there are only a handful of things that can be done unless you are looking at throwing in the greenbacks to get custom work done.

Congrats on your new purchase. If you want the bluish tint headlights I buy all my bulbs from:

www.autofreak.net

They ship pretty fast and have a wide selection of bulbs. I use the Polarg brand all over in my car and the PIAA 9004 as headlights. The biggest reason for this was because they are legal and most of the other ones are not. These also do not get as hot because they don’t have the high wattage that other bulbs have. They are a bit pricier, but you can find them on the parts page here at the org, or ebay has for normally a good deal. It’s all personal preference. Good Luck and welcome. From another newbies experience these guys are great for answering any question.

Another source is the classifieds of Maxima.org. So far, I have scored PIAA 9004s, 1156s, and 1157s for a grand total of $90 from other members of the board. Those same bulbs retail will hit you for around $150 or more.

Ah ha! I knew it! I know for a fact that Maxima fans don't run for about a minute after the car has been shut off. And I got the information from Urban Nissan in Texas.
Somebody has to get their car checked out before they start having problems with the cooling system. I agree with you Sarah99GXE, Honda cooling fans do run after the car has been shut off.
