they are crap, I wouldn't worry about it. Probably less than 20w per channel. They also run at 1 ohm, so they aren't very compatible with a standard aftermarket system.

I was thinking to upgrade my Bose system with a replacement head unit from a 4th gen Max with the CD/Cassette combo. I installed it, and it worked for a couple minutes but was scratchy, then it just cut off. I think my speaker amps are just blown. Should I get them repaired/replaced? Can they be made to sound better with reapaired amps or better amps? I would kind of like to keep the stock look but have decent performance. What do you think?

Also, I was thinking to add a CD changer that can handle MP3s to the stock Bose Unit. Do you think that's doable?

One more thought, what about swapping the 3rd gen speakers with Bose speakers from later gen Nissans? Would they work any better?

1. if you want to keep the bose, just repair your amps if you can solder.
2. there is a mod out there for the 4th gen bose H/U to have an aux input for XM, iPod etc...

yes they do.
some stereos will work fine with them directly, some won't.

Yup, HU= head unit...

You need a aftermarket wiring harness made by Scosche...Walmart carries them..

And you will also need a antenna adapter...

Thanks. Some dude a Best BUy was telling me because of the 8Oms from the Bose speakers I would need to get some $150 rig to reduce it to 4Oms because of the wiring or something. It sounded like BS, but wasn't sure.

How hard is it to do a stereo installation with Sirius Tuner myself?

Seriously, do yourself a big favor and replace the Bose speakers. The complete OEM Bose system sounded fine originally, but now you're upgrading---don't forget the speakers.

I am only upgrading so I can have integrated Sirius, I am not really all that sesative to slight sound changes.

But if I did replace the speakers about how much would that addition cost me? I don't need top of the line.

I am more intersted however to make sure I get a good intergrated Sirius system. Hopinf I do not have to do that $150 rewiring.

The car currently has a Sony CDX-C480 in it, is that the factory model, or does that mean the last owner got their own Head Unit?

Any standard 6x9 aftermarket speaker will fit in the rear pods...It's the front that needs to be modified for aftermarket speakers...

I mentioned aboive currently the Sony CDX-C480 is installed in the car. If I buy a Sony CDX-GT400 (which is Sirius Ready) should I be able to install the Head Unit with the connectors already used in the current setup?

I guess what I am asking is, since I am stiking with Sony will they have the same wiring/install kit for the same car type and year?

all you need is an adapter harness and antenna adapter.
you can get them for about $10 ea.
you don't NEED to rewire them, you can reuse the stock wires. I did and it sounds OK, but then again I've got a crappy HU.
The Bose in my I30 sound ALOT better than my aftermarket setup in my max

my bose system was blowed/not working when i got it. changing out some fuses to see it it works. only rear right speaker works at the moment. hopefully the fuses make it work. b/c my mom has a 99 Maxima SE n her Bose system sounds nice.

I did.
to make my life easy, I just cut the harness off my bose harnesses to allow me to wire every thing up outside the car so it was just plug and play once it was bolted in.
don't forget that you need some sort of adapter plate for the front.
Personally I made my own

Actually talked to Sony Live Support tonight and they said if I curretly have a CDXC series installed the CDXGT series should be just plug and play. No need for anything extra.


Now installing the Sirius tuner is the X factor.

so your saying realli the BOSE speakers r ****ty. but in my moms 99 SE they are really good. I havent really driven my car much since i got my max last saturday n cant drive til this saturday once i get an alignment. n only my right rear speaker works. soo i have to upgrade anyways. my uncle said for me to get 4 6x9's put in back. n some other speakers in the front doors. would i have to cut two more hole for the two extra 6x9s. because i want big sound w/o subs. n i will b running like 300watt amp to the fronts n like 600watt amp to the 6x9s.

the 4th gen bose speakers are different then the 3rd gen.
the 4th gen runs what looks like a 6.5 in the rear
don't know if all 4th gen bose has it, but I've also got tweeters in the A-pillars on mine

The rears you can just get any replacement speaker and use for rear fill. The front speakers are much more important, since they're the main units that reproduce the sound you hear. In the end, you'll save money from any unnecessary fabrication (ie cutting your rear deck to pieces) and still retain proper front stage imaging.

Absolutely the way to go.

One alt step would be to use a pair of 6x9's with quality low frequency capabilities in the back and cross them at the amp so these 6x9's only play the bass and subbass. You'll have to seal them to the deck really well. 600w going to quality 6x9's playing only low frequencies should give you big sound.

As is clear from other threads in this forum, there is plenty of air space and clearance behind the OEM grills up front, so your speaker choices will include many high quality options.

ok. maybe he meant put 6x9s all around. i dont really understand what he was telling me it was hot n we was puttin in a fuel pump on his car on the side of the road. after it broke down the night b4. turns out he only needed gas. but, the fuel pump was in dier need of replacement.
