i remember readin' somewhere that the 5th gen FSTB fits our 3rd gens. is this true? does it only fit on the VE or can it fit both the VG and VE? if not then what fits my VG from a later maxima model???

yeah, i know that they function the same but i have read that sometimes the ones that r made for the VG don't actually fit properly so people have ended up usin' other FSTB from later model maximas but dont know if the 5th gen FSTB will work on my VG and thats what i want to know if the 5th gen FSTB fits the 3rd gen VE and VG?

i think the only reason people use the 5 gen fstb is for clearance of the back of the ve manifold or ac lines or sometin. i dont see why it wouldnt work on a vg car the strut towers are exactly the same right?

yeah they should be the same but i guess its also cuz of the intake manifold on the VE. i just want to be sure since i have noticed that some FSTB r just a straight bar that connects to the brackets on the strut tower comparted to other FSTB that the bar has curves where it bolts up to the brackets on the strut tower to make clearance. i just want to know if i can use the 5th gen FSTB on my GXE?

I almost guarantee you can. I used a 5th gen on my VE, but i tried to put the GXE bar on my VE and it wouldn't clear by an inch or so. The 5th gen bar rides a little higher, but the VG motor doesn't protrude very high. Clearance for the hood and such is identical in all 3rd gens, so you will be fine no matter which bar you get.

Wait... 1,127 post still no FSTB installed? I got the ebay bar as well. For some reason it was 1/2" too long. I just trimmed a little off each side to fit. But 's got to be the greatest mod you can get for under $20.

I went with the otto 5th gen FSTB for my ve. Fits perfect and looks
sweet.only problem is it costs 65 bucks.. I would say for the money it's
the best mod you can do..

i knew u were gonna say that. i already bought a $20 ebay FSTB and guess what, it is also 1/2'' too long. i was thinkin' about cuttin it shorter but i figured to just get one that actually fit on my car without any moddin' but i guess i get what i paid for. now to make clearance for my FSTB i had to unclip my A/C hose from the Strut Tower to make room. but i guess that i'll either sell it and get the correct one or just deal with it. so i guess the 5th gen FSTB does fit the 3rd gen both VE and VG correct?

the AC tube problem is for the 92 up Maxima (SE and GXE). The reason it hits is the end brackets that go on the strut tower are curved where the bar connects. You need a straight up bracket like that of the OTTO for it to clear the AC line.

The OTTO 5th gen bar will fit without having to mod anything on the car (VE and VG).

Lol internetautomar u did exactly what I did I tried gettin it to fit and it was
1\2" at best too long so after a beer I decided to take off a nut on one side and it fit and preformed like a champ ... had to be the best 20 bucks I spent!

well yeah you have a pre 92 VG...as I stated the 92 UP (all models) are the ones with the AC line problems and the VE had to have the raised bar to clear the upper IM.

why did you have to buy it from ebay? Just google for the cheapest price and buy from there...honestly I dont find that many deals on ebay anymore unless its junk no name brand stuff. The rest of the stuff you can usually find cheaper from a dealer if you search. of course if you can find it used on ebay thats where you get your deals.

I got mine from procarparts but I think I have read on the dealer pages a lot of people were having problems with them in the last year. I have bought a few things from them and never had a problem though.

I found one from a junk yard on ebay but they said to email them for a shipping quote (made this big deal that if you didnt get the quote dont be surprised and not pay...blah blah). I sent them two emails and they never returned it for a shipping quote so I said forget it. I wasnt about to get stuck with a really high shipping price. It wasnt a great deal anyway...especially for a used bar.

it should work but then you run into the same problem that the cheap bars have. The bracket on them are curved so you will have to move the AC line a little.

Dont get me wrong its not like you move the line a lot but if I had a choice I would rather not move the line.

the 5th gen fst braces will work. i have one on my ve with no problems except i had to unclip the hose which i don't consider to be a problem. $25 = no-brainer.
and you can find good deals on ebay from time to time. i got my place racing cold air intake for about $90. it makes sense to check occasionally

edit: visually you can't tell its even moved. i would say it was moved only 1/4 of an inch

i spent 160 for the STILLEN and when i was trying to take off the bolts to put it on i found out one of the bolts was stripped. so i guess i have to have it cut off and buy another strut plate.

u would have to buy a new strut mount which also comes with a new bearing. as i was bolting the FSTB down to finish up for the day, i accidentally overtorqued one of the strut tower nuts so i had to go over to autozone and buy a new strut mount and bearing. took me about 10min. to swap out the strut mounts. of course i had to buy a spring compressor and it was a good thing that my dad found an air compressor in a trailor and brought it home with him. lol!!! life is sweet. (sometimes)

well this tread would have been helpful before I bought mine a couple of months ago. I got a 93 GXE but and did not order the OTTO FSTB. However, I mannaged to lower the A/C line so it fits fine. It would have been better with the other FSTB though.
