Y-pipe problem

I got my new Warpspeed ypipe but the flange holes don't line up with the studs on the cat. Apparently got the wrong flange. Everything else lined up but the rear flange is supposed to have a slot instead of just round holes so that it will fit. Talked to warpspeed and it has the wrong flange. They suggest to dremel the hole into until it fit. He said if I couldn't get right that he would send me another one. Should I bother messing with it or just have them send me another (probably take another week to get it). How tough is the aluminum, would it be possible to file or dremel a quarter of an inch close to center on each side?

If you can be patient I would say send it back, you paid for the right one that shouldn't require modification , that said I would have drilled out the holes by now and have it on the car...

I think I hang on to this one, but it was dissapointing. I only had a few minutes to work on it and I could of had it finished in those few minutes if it would have been the right flange. Instead it looks like I am going to have drill and file on it until I can get it right.

Since you do not know much about your car,i suggest you take some time to read the stickies at the top of the page..There is a crapload of info in the stickies about these cars and the mods/fixes you can do to them....

I'd just modify the one in hand to fit.

of course I've had one sitting in my rafters for about 6 months now that I have as of yet to install.
I want a UDP first

Who needs a y-pipe... Just leave it off and shove a sponge in the exhaust manifold to silence it.

At least you'll pass emissions.

that would actually cause you to fail emissions.

Send it back and get the right one that you paid for, you shouldn't have to waste your time trying to get it to work

Always a smart @ss comment. But true, nonetheless.

I would definetally send the pipe back. There is no justification for modifying a part that you paid for to be the right part. Modifying a brand new part when it's MUUCH easier to just send it back for the right part will leave you much happier in the end. Plus what if you mess it up, or theres other fitment issues that you don't know about, like the mounting surface is a few degrees off or something? Then it would always be on your mind. It would for me at least. If you have the option to get the right part, then take it. One thing you could do if they make you pay for shipping the wrong part back to the company is to see if they could take the cost of shipping the wrong part back off the price of the correct part. They could do this in the form of a refund or maybe a "store credit?"

To bypass the issue of shipping altogether...you made it sound like they would just send you another one if the one you have doesn't work. If that is truly what they'll do, then sweet for you because you just got a free y-pipe. If you don't modify it you could probably sell it for what you paid for it and essentially get a y-pipe for free. SWEEEET.
