How much of a difference is 300lbs in a race. if the car weighing 300lbs more has 25 hp more.

guy at work wabt to race me in his 2006 chevy cobalt rs 140hp automatic and 2700lbs. i weigh 3100 with 165hp automatic. i told him a 60kick or should i do like a 50kick. what will be the outcome. if it is likely to be towards me i wanna put money on the race. like 60 bucks. to put in the bank to put toward my rx7.

please get back to me. its goin down tomorrow. so i need quick responses.

i know some of you are gonna say hey this guy was just mad las night sayin his car is slow last night, now he want to race again. but, its just for fun and maybe for a small amount of moolah.

this is not the place to be talking about racing. First its stupid and dangerous to race on public roads and secondly why go from a kick...thats not really racing and your VG will run out of steam on the high end. Yeah I used to do it but as I am older and family oriented I realize how stupid I was as a kid.

With that said...take it to the weekend battle forum or whatever it is (without looking I am not sure if we still have that forum) because it doesnt belong here.

I remember my budies and I would talk about weight and the rule of thumb was every 100lbs was about a tenth of a second (or car length) but there are way to many variables to be exact (high torque car, where the weight is etc.).

If you want to race this guy go to a track and do it right and safely.

 

You need NOS. Two bottles. The big ones.

 

I would overnight the parts from japan..

 

hopefully you dont kill anyone, $60 bucks isnt close to what an accident while racing would cost you.

I hope you are talking about racing at a track.

Getting a number = $25-$50
Paying each session to race = $25-$40
(depends on the track).

You might as well race him for $100 and go to a track. Then, you could post it in the 1/4 mile forum.

Otherwise, illegal street racing should be put into the "weekend battles" section on the General Maxima page.

My money is on the Cobalt. Brand new motor vs. a tired VG auto.

 

ok screw the race. besides i wouldnt wanna ruin my car right before im selling it. but it would b easy to win he has a huge *** box wwith two twelves and all i got is three JL Audio 8's. But i will take mine out for the race.

 

The maxima will win if it's running right. Just go from a dig(Torque) and make sure your trunk is empty and you don't have anybody with you...oh and do it on a track.

 

you will smoke the cobalt. my folks rented one in hawaii this past march, i went with them and one day told my dad to floor it, i could barely feel it accelerate.

 

the max will smoke it.......i used to have a VG auto (but with a WSP).. and it wasnt "fast" but it had ***...... you will beat him, just get a good jump on him.... how many miles you got???

maybe after axles and control arms are on my car. but id say im not gonna race until i get the rx7 running. and go to the track for my racing. to be safe. i know some1 who just recently got sentenced like 5 years for 5 old ppl dying when the car he was racing hit the car that pulled out when it wasnt supposed to. the crash realli wasnt any of the racers fault. but still they were racing. this happened in Memphis btw....

If someone was charged and convicted, then yes, someone was at fault. It's dumb to illegally race on crouded streets, or anywhere where any innocent people may be injured. And...if the rx7 isn't turboed, it will still be slow...

 

It'd be funny to see that race, I can just imagine people on the sidewalk and cyclists casually passing them.

 

Had a rental cobalt last week...dismal. A VG A/T still in good health feels stronger to me especially from a dig. Once you wound up the Cobalt it had a little "pep." I'd say a driver's race though and of course I mean at the track.

 

make sure the cobalt guy isnt lyingt to you.. he may have an "SS" cobalt.. i think they are supercharged...
