Need Opinion.. Keep It Or Sell It?

Here is my problem i have had this car for about 2 years since than i have spent A LOT of money on it which is why i named it greedy devil. Car is getting old and starting to get to her last ends. example rear manifold studs are broke not a major thing can have a shop do but now i have oil coming out the exhaust so i think i might have sucked a valve with the exhaust leaking as bad as it is and as long as it has been doing it. So here is my delima do i sell it while it is still worth something or do i just drive it till the wheels fall off which with my luck will literally happen.

Now i love the car and really don't want to get rid of it but at the same time if and when it goes no telling when I'll have enough to put down on a decent car that i like.

To give you a little more info on the car it has about 170K lowered on Eibachs, struts are a 1 1/2 old, Stillen body kit, BMW headlights, BMW M3 style side mirrors, shave spoiler and 3 light, upgraded CAT Y-pipe mid pipe and muffler, shaved door handles, Fuel injectors i replace about a 1 1/2 years ago there is more that i could list but the point is i have tried my best but she has been fighting me the whole time. i no sooner fix 1 thing and than i have another problem it seems like.

engine wise it runs strong and i know that if i rebuild the top end of the car it will probably blow out the bottom end with as old as it is and as many miles as it has. so decisions decision what would you guys do?

I'd fix it... compared to what could go wrong, that's minor. Imagine if the heater core went out on you. That's an entire dash removal.

You could try to find someone to buy it, but you won't get the amount of money you spent back. Or you can part it out, in which case, wait till Feb when I'll have my tax return so I can buy a few things.

Without a decent paint job and inspite all of the mods you won't get much for it, AND it sounds like you're tired of the car and want to get rid of it.

Keep it mang... with the condition it in (paint and exhaust prob.) i dont think you will get nearly what you want for it, certinly not enough for a down payment on a new car... (3rd gens in excelent cond. only go for like 3k tops)

just my thoughts...

have no illusion of getting anything close to what i put into and yeah i guess i am getting tired of the car i mean sounds corny but i have always liked 3rd gen Max's and i found one and got it and i have tried my best to keep it in good shape and do some mods.

If i do sell all i would try to do is find a SE. i would keep the body kit and leave all the other stuff on it since all the stuff can be easily redone and cheaply for that matter

I would keep it. All cars break. I've been through the same motions with broken studs, it's not as bad as you think.

I think you might be getting tired of it because of the lack of real door poppers. I'm kidding, sorta.

wow that's a old stab ... i did get the 50lb electromagnetic actuator a LONG time ago but I'm glad you remember.

the manifold is not what worries me it the oil coming out of the exhaust is what has me concerned.

PS you do realize any tire shop can get you those spacers and of course there is always eBay

I'm in a similar position with my 89 VG5. I plan on running the car into the ground (I don't even put high grade gas in her anymore.) Hell it saves me more money on my insurance as a 2nd car then it cost me in taxes.

I have to admit though, broken studs are TEH SUCK.

I meant it outta good humor(sorry you missed it buddy)

Are you sure oil is comming outta the manifold, a leak valve cover will make you think that. Also if the oil is comming out of the rear, closest to the tranny, it could be a oil sensor back there. Mine is leaking a bit, I thought it was the manifold.

When it comes to spacers, i'm just waiting for a good deal. And ebay isn't the place to get spacers because of how crucial the qaulity needs to be. As we learned in another thread with someones wheels falling OFF

After going this far into it you might has well hang on to the car. If you need to, rebuild the top up, the bottom ends on these cars are pretty tough, there's 3rd gens with 300k+ still driving around.

the bottom end isnt weak. Its good to 450whp, as long as the oil was changed regularly your good. Id just get new heads from and orger and put them on your self. Any oil problem you had is gone. As long as it was the leaking valve guides.

well my buddy i bough the car from i know is the type he will only change or fix something if he has too or we give him enough **** about it and he always does it the cheapest way possible! Lets put it this way everything he changed or fixed i have had to change or fix with the exception of the tranny but thats cuz he went to a good known shop.... think his wife made him.

I think i am just going to drive it either till it blows or i can save the money and rebuild the whole engine

I say you should keep it by selling it you will not solve your problem because you will not get much from it anyway. Fix the problems that you can afford now and the rest latter.

i might think about that but i think the newer models are ugly and lack refinement where as with the 3rd gen all the lines flow with each other in a constant flow... NO OFFENSE meant to anyone with a newer model
