My Max totalled! (Pics!!! 56kers beware)

Well, I know I haven't posted in a long time, but more than anything else, I haven't needed to because I have used my Max as a daily driver. And she's been great for the last year and a half. But I'm sad to say my '92 SE was totalled yesterday. A hail storm rolled through producing baseball sized hail and it's done (along with the HUNDERDS of other cars in the parking lot at my work). The front wind shield, rear wind and sun roof are all destroyed and my sunroof track was busted as well. Not to mention the hail actually put a crack in the metal of the roof. Needless to say, I only have liability insurance, so I'm retiring her. She needs new shocks and tires as well, and she's just not worth the $$$$'s.

Posted are some photos.

I did the best I could, but trust me, there was no way to stop the rain that came for about another hour or two.

Well, I am more than willing to let it go to a fellow Max lover. I can't part it out, so if someone wanted to get the car, I'd be all for it!

I have never seen hail that big before and hopefully, I never will. Thank goodness I live in a state that doesn't get that kind of weather.

Honestly, I don't know what is next. I'm going to look at a couple of cars this weekend. But I'll say this, it's probably going to be a Civic, Corolla, or a Prizm. I have to drive 80-120 miles a day, go gas is becoming a bigger concern.

Once again, if people are interested in the CAR I am willing to let the whole thing go. I cannot and will NOT part it out.

from what my dad told me, a few minutes after i left lapine this past 4th of july they got nailed with golfball sized hail which i've never seen or heard of before in OR. course that's nothing compared to baseball sized..

sorry about the loss.

Man, that's lousy. But are you sure you don't want to look for another Gen 3? At least that way, you can salvage any of the good parts you want, and save/use them for yourself. It made me think that only because I'm doing it myself. Just picked up a 93 SE in decent shape for a bargain, soon to replace my current beloved but very rusty 93 GXE.

I can drive it in first
a stick just isn't practical around me. ask those who have driven around here, an auto is a better choice for a DD.

I'm also fairly uncoordinated.

Trust me, I would love another Max. This car is a seriously fun car to drive, but I literally put 31k on the car last year. I'm not driving as much, but fuel costs are just out of control. I'm still spending $250+ a month on gas. I need something that gets better milage. Once we move (in the next year or so) we will have room for a third vehical, and then I may just be looking for another Max.

But you know what they say, once you go Max you will never go back!

Preach it brother. oo-RA!
Anyways fuzzyuu, with outrageous mileage costs like that, I bet you've considered public transportation. Meanwhile, hope you get back on your feet soon. If that happened to me, I'd be wanting to wrap my next vehicle in bubblewrap for protection, lol.
We had a bad hailstorm here in MA in the mid-1980's, though only a little bigger than golf ball size. At the time, there were a lot of cars from the 70's, 60's still around (I had a 74 Chevelle at the time). Only the newer, thinner gauge sheet metal econoboxes got damaged. Mine didn't. But we're all in the same boat now.

just as a foot note to this
at $3.09 a gallon it will take a $500 car that gets 7mpg better than the current car 9,431.35 miles to pay for itself in fuel savings.
