I'll be getting the proto type udp from UR this week. I'm looking forward to it. I told the guy, and I said I hoped he didnt overtighten the pulley bolt (I bet he did) as well.
Do you have AOL IM, Yahoo, or MSN? My name is adogg18 on AIM and Yahoo. We need to talk.

I did it!!!! 14.93 @ 92.61mph NA VE Auto

Today, I went to the Fayetteville Motorsports Park in Fayetteville, NC. Sunny, no wind, high of 60 degrees.

My mods are:

Custom Ram Air Intake
WSP Ypipe
ASP UDP
Advanced Timing to 20* BTDC
Removed AC Belt
WSP Testpipe
Maximum Tuning Valve Body
Removed seats and gutted trunk

Oh yeah, here is my full timeslip from my best run:

60' 2.3400
330' 6.3698
1/8 9.6696@74.83mph
1000' 12.5091
1/4 14.9374@92.61mph

Tire pressure was left at 32 psi since I didn't have a problem with traction on this nice track.

Muwahaha!! This is for all those people that said it couldn't be done. History has been made!

You know what's funny... I did a 14.94 with a cold engine. Then, I was about to run out of time, so I did 3 hot laps... 14.99, 14.95, and 14.93!!! I don't get it.. I have a bad KS. My ghetto intake did it for me.

Damn I'm impressed, I cant wait until I start running those times. Do you have any plans on getting the JWT ECU?

No, I'm not interested in the JWT ECU cause I don't think it's worth the $500. I can shave .25 just by advancing my timing to 20*. I know the ECU will advance it throughout the powerband and adjust it accordingly, but how much more can it help? I am thinking that it will probably shave about 3 tenths. .05 more than advanced timing would. But who knows, it could shave a rediculous amount of time like my $5 ram air intake did. Also, if you would have asked me if I'm going to mod my car exactly one year ago, I would have said you're crazy.

One year ago, the NA VE Auto record was a 15.60 I believe set by Dirksmoothe and people flamed him for saying that he's going to hit 14's NA. That's why I brought this thread back. It was my motivation. No wait, I think the record a year ago was BluMax at 15.32.

I was currently running 16.70's with just WAI at 2000' altitude. I never thought the record was possible. Especially when I had no plans to mod anything more than intake and Y-pipe. Well, I'm at pretty consistant high high 14's now and I have more plans. But, I might not be able to get them in effect before I move to higher elevation again in Las Vegas. So, the record may stand at high 14's NA.

I am really sorry if I leave your name out, but I would like to thank a few people. First off, thanks to James for talking me through my first $25 intake. Also, he spent countless hours answering all my stupid newbie questions. He made my valve body possible, reguardless how much of a pain it was. :cough: Don :cough:

Thanks dmontzmax for explaining to me how modding is like crack. He convinced me that a Y-pipe should be my next mod. And he now makes fun of me b/c one year ago, I didn't want to mod. Then once I started, I'm addicted. Thanks.

Also, thanks to Matt B for helping me with my UDP. He made my installation experience much easier. Along with the UDP, he helped me greatly in many maitenance tasks. Like, steering rack boots, front oil seal, belt sizes, etc.

Thanks to Bryan H for sharing his AC belt and other info with me. Bored TB comes soon.

And last but not least, Nismo87SE. He freakin analyzed EVERY timeslip I have. And kept saying, you need to get your dang 60' down. I'm like dude, I know but it's not possible without new mods. My car launches perfectly everytime. Then, after he got that out of his system, he started helping me beyond 4.10 ratios. I owe ALL credit to him for my Ram Air intake.

Well, that's it.

The ECU will help alot. For one thing you get a higher rev limit and you get better power. There is no doubt that advanced timing works, but you can only change the entire timing curve. The ECU optimizes it, I've seen it dynoed on VGs, SR20s, VQs and it makes alot more midrange-toppend power than bumped timing. It would be a good deal to get if you can find it used.

Yeah, the best I've seen is 14.77 with VI... 14.94 without. I forgot his name, but he posted in the 1/4 forum in the thread entitled "14.94@xx".

I have heard Don has gotten 14.2 NA. But not too many people believe that b/c he couldn't prove it. You know how he likes to lie to make himself look like the best.

I think its IanSW,
hes here in washington.
Arron, how is your tranny shifting? Do you have a VB mod?
on my 3rd gen, my tranny used to (im hesitant to say slip, because it wasnt really a slip) delay, alittle bit to shift, which would allow it to hold gears longer and keep a higher RPM when it would shift to the next gear. I actually did run a 14.82 with that car, and it was pretty close to stock. it had less than 100k, and was a 93' SE auto. black with black leather interior. I dont know if you guys remember it (It was wrecked on 8/3/02).

Also if you need anyparts for your cars, I have a VE sitting on a table in a shop. it has 163k on it, and im just taking it apart for fun, but if you guys need anything, let me know. im thinking about rebuilding the VTC's and selling them to someone that needs them.

later

dont worry man,
the whole Auto vs. 5spd thing is all fun and games (atleast I have always taken it that way).
actually the funny part is our community has the whole tranny rivalary, but if you look at the mustang ones, they rip the v6's to shreads, and the v6's try to rip on the maximas, but the v8's dont (well as much). lots of people have told me that the maxima community is the biggest/most supportive online board theyve ever seen, and go figure, its only for one model.

Can you please tell me EXACTLY what mods you had? And what things did you do to your car in order to get it that fast? I'm sure you still have the timeslip... can you take a photo of it or scan it?

When did you run this time? And why didn't you post when you did it? I'm sure you were pretty excited to run a spectacular time as 14.82... so, I'm sure you posted it when you did it. Please try to answer all my questions. Thanks.

That's a pretty high trap speed for 14.8...

All the 14.8's I've seen trap at right around 92 or under. Also you ran that with a relatively poor 60' time. Seems to me like you've got a case of the making-up-the-numbers syndrome.

arg, guys, cmon.
first of all, I crashed the car 3 days short of 5 months ago (8/3/02). I will try to find the old timeslip for you, but I had just copied the numbers into excel at the time.

mods, heh, dont you guys remember, I wasnt allowed to mod my parents wanted me to save money for college and investments that would increase in value, instead of decrease.

I did do a poor mans pop charger (basically everything after the air box was removed). Along with that the Cat had been warn threw, it was just shy of being a straight pipe, and at the time, i didnt know enough to just bash it with a crow-bar.

I did have my infinity stereo in it, but you guys probably dont care

as I said in my previous post (well first one on pg. 5) the transmission had begun to slip alittle, depending on how you would drive it. between shifts, I could trick it into holding a gear till the rev limiter then shift, almost like power braking, but not the same. I never could figure out why at the time, but it would build up a small ammount of pressure. it almost would feel as if the car slipped into neutral (but it would still pull, just not as hard) then quickly shift and jolt you forward even more. Im guessing it was the filter starting to get dirty, as my friend had the same symptoms, just magnified 100x worse (first gear would have to rev to 3000 then it would "dump" into first. **** for city driving. post is on max-world. i will find it if you like).

now seeing as most of you are 5spd owners, you probably wouldnt know that 1st gear is good to almost 45mph and 2nd is good to about 83mph. I never reached the top of third but it was well over 115mph. Arron if youve ever reached the top of 3rd, please let me know, ive always been interested.

Basically I had an extremly strong running motor and a tranny that was just right. Also launches took some practice, power braking didnt do anything for them, as I could already peelout from 1st.

Also, I believe I did post my results here, but I wouldnt be surprised if I didnt. Gloating the Maxima is the reason why my 3rd gen is dead. Granted this is track racing, the maxima was crashed due to a wreckless driving incident where I was immaturely showing off the car to 3 other kids, who luckily did not get hurt in the accident. today (12/31/02) I have to go to the trial to face the delayed consequences for my actions, although I have already punished myself and learned from my mistakes, there are still consequences. Please everyone keep this inmind, dont go off and do quarter mile sprints on the public streets.

Ok. So, you are telling me you ran a 14.82 @ 94 mph with a 2.4 60' with only WAI, failed cat, stereo system, and a slipping tranny?

I have the best VB mod in the nation. I know what a good tranny feels like. I know what a slipping tranny feels like. I know exactly what a testpipe does compared to a failed cat, gutted cat, or fully functional cat.

Everything that has come out of your mouth has made no sense at all. This is the first time i have ever done this but.... "You are full of CRAP!"

If you scanned a timeslip, I still wouldn't believe you. I am sorry, but your story is full of holes.

If you want to prove yourself, please answer these questions:

1. What track did you run at?
2. What date did you run this time?
3. Was this time measured with your GTech Pro?
4. And finally, why are you lying? To get attention?
