Hi guys,

I got a situation that's driving me nuts and mileage down. I recently swapped engine and have everything put together, now when start the car the radiator fan kicks on at full blast and won't stop for anything. It's goes on full blast with or without A/C.

I did change out the t-stat and bled the system, although not that well. I'll have to bleed it again with the heater on and what not. I also read that the fan swith/nut or whatever, between the IM and the Valve cover can be the prob.

Anyways, I would very much appriciate all and any input, advise comments you guys can offer. I was hoping for a trouble free maxima for a long time, but I guess it wouldn't be fun having a trouble free car . Thanks in advance.

 

I know on a vg, if the temp sensor is unplugged it'll run.

 

same on ve and if i'm not mistakin, all cars. play with the red harness (unplug, replug, wiggle) see if she turns off.

 

check for codes. IIRC, the temp sensor is a code 13.

either you disconnected the sensor or the sensor is bad

they are about $20 and take about 5 minutes tops to replace.

Well guys problem solved, played with the temp sense, plugged and plugged it back in. If I push in too hard it will stay on constantly, so I eased it in and to make sure it works I turned on the A/C and the fans comes on. Although it did come at a small price, I managed to brake one of the plastic sides that holds it in place.

Makes driving so much easier especially with a 5spd. sooo much smoother.

Anyone help a newbie out with a location of the temp sensor? My 90 SE is doing the same thing...fan runs full blast all the time. Thanks!

well after checking it out last night, my wire was completely unplugged from the sensor, and the plastic clip is completely busted. After plugging it in, in a few minutes, the fan went off, then stayed off for a minute then back on, but never cycled off again. I'm thinking I will need to replace that sensor.

 

It could be that there is crud between the connections. You should try to clean it out with some electrical cleaner and get a toothpick or paperclip to scrape some of that residue off. I had a similar problem on my Max, an it's just the connection not being firm/solid/good/etc.

But hey, if it ain't broken, why try to break it again?
