Oil leacking from lower oil pan

Hello All,

Some engine oil is leacking from lower oil pan. It looks like there is a little crack in the middle of the pan (between mufler and engine mount). Is there any quick fix for this problem? Some thing like metal seal?

Clean the area with some degreaser or something similar[carb cleaner works good also]

Make sure it is the pan...

If it is the pan, then i doubt anything would seal it permanantly...

It is the lower pan. It could be crack or corrosion. Mechanics wants $1,000 to replace it. An old car... may be time to say good bye soon.

I believe there's a product by Permatex called Oil Pan Repair Kit...never tried it but it sounds like a quick fix to me...its about 8 bucks, not the best solution but hey it helps in emergencies. You know if the pan IS the problem for that same price you can probably get another pan from the junk yard or off someone on here, if you do be sure to get the gasket too.

A "grand" to replace an oil pan? Tell your mechanic to stop using the "cheap crack". Private me if youre interested and I'll supply you with my mechanic's info. You can contact him and take it from there. I'm pretty sure it would cost less than $200.00 ( if that much at all).

In the meantime try to locate yourself a used oil pan from one of the many "junkyards". I've seen Maxima's in Hunt's Point BX,Shea Stadium Queens and also some in East NY Bklyn.

Also, I dont know the extent of the crack but MAYBE it would be a good idea if you drove the car less until the problem is resolved.

A grand to replace an oil pan? I feel like strangling your mechanic!!@#$%^&*
