What tells the seatbelt to retract?

What makes the seat belt to retract? i pushed the pin in by finger and the seatbelt would not retract but if i close it, it does.

I do not see any other pin that could control this.

inquiry mind wants to know.

the door latch switch. all that visible button does is control the lights and chime.

speaking of controlling lights and chime, how come only the driver door makes the light dim slowly but the other 3 make it shut off right away when they're closed?

I'm interested in that dimming too. Mine dont dim anymore. It may have something to do with the fact that I installed 2 courtesy door lamps under both sides of the dash by the feet to illuminate it at night when the doors open, on the same switch that contols the dome lamp, so it would dim. They all used to dim, but now they dont.
