My body shop basically told me that even though rust can be removed, It'll always come back. So that If I want to make my current maxima a show car, I'd be better finding another with a perfect, clean body.

In your opinion, do you think its worth to pay for the rust removal and custom paint even with the risk of having it come back?

Where is the rust? How bad is the rust? is it just surface rust or is it deeper than that? Is this a Snow Belt or Beach car? Lots of variables here.

it does not pay

yo listen up. if you want a show car buy a brand new car and hook it up. then only drive it in the summer time and to shows. if you keep this car and pay about 3000 at least for a nice paint job. the rust will come back you will get ****ed and you will hate your car. so it really does not pay to make your maxima that you have right now in to a show car. PLUS YOUR CAR IS ATLEAST 10 YEARS OLD.. think before you do something. PLUS PLUS. you are probably going to drive in the snow which means more salt and rust and maybe an acceident. then your f***ed. oh well do what you want but remember your car is old. i wanted to do the same thing their chief. but i have no rust and my engine is mint excellent paint. and it is garaged since i got it (brand new) only 68000 miles on it. so dont think i dont know whats up. i do know whats up. i have a lot done to my ride. but i stopped spending money on it because it is old. it is a 1993. those were my 2 cents

i think that you can make your car a show car. everyone says its too old and it has rust and bla bla. i know people that get cars that have rusted holes all the way through the car and rust everywhere else. they patch the holes up and sand the car all down get it painted and whatever else and they have a show car. how do you think people turn those old bombers into show cars. i can tell you, they arent in prestine condition when they find them.

Its true what everyone is saying. A lot of things can get in the way. I am willing to spend at most, $4,000 into renewing my car. Its mechanically great, runs like a champ but has two bad fuel injectors. Thats all....

Sanding/Cutting off rust, filling in w/fiberglass, painting up,down,in and out, stuff like that....wouldnt it make the job worthwhile?

i am also considering keeping my car around for a while too. and besides getting it repainted someday. for now i have been trying to take car of the body work myself. i had a little surface rust on the rear door jams and the paint was comming off the body moldings. i redid all that stuff and am going to take care of the couple door dings soon. the surface rust did come back on the rear door jams, but its because i didnt do anything to really prevent it. it is only surface rust, but things you can do to prevent it is to use sealants to keep the moisture out. my friend told me what he used on his chevelle project, and i cant think of the name. its this black stuff that comes in a can. there are other types of silicone sealants you can use as well. his chevelle was covered in rust when he got it. in fact when he picked it up from the guy he bought it from it was stuck buried under a tree. so thats just an idea of what kind of shape it was in. he redid it all and it is looking great. he actually uses it as his daily driver now too. everybody will tell you things cant be done, because they cant do it or dont have the money too. i plan on keeping the VG engine as well. everybody says the engine is weak, but if you look at everybodys mods who say that, all they have is exhaust and intake. good luck
