just a maxima

some dude randomly drove by and saw my cars today and then stopped to knock on the door saying he is interested in buying one of them. i do want to sell one so i showed him both cars. both are 5 speeds with black leather and both have low miles (125k, 114k). he asked what i would sell them for and said $2500 each. now the 91 has a reconstructed title so i doubt i'd ever get someone to pay $2500 for it but i don't really want to sell it anyway so it's all good. but the ve should definitely be worth $2500. so i told this guy the asking prices and he said "well talk to my uncle he's the one with the money" he was sitting in his car smoking, i walked up and he explains he's looking for a car for his nephew. i tell him i'm asking $2500 and he scoffed and said "it's just a maxima" like i said $100,000 or something. i asked what he was looking to spend and he says $900-$1000 i chuckled and said "no" then we said goodbye. i just thought it was funny how these guys drive up and knock on my door obviously desperate for one of my fairly rare cars and then when it comes down to it won't offer more than $1000 and say "they're just maximas". damn lowballers

$2500 is a good price to me. I paid about that for my wife's 94SE Automatic w/ 150k miles.

look at it this way, next week he'll get a 1989 camery for $950, 2 weeks after he'll need to speed 150 to fix rusted out exaust. About 3.5 week his car will burn so much gas he'd wish he gotten something better.
That happpens to 90% of the lowballers..

lmfao.

considering your mileage, i'll take it.

Ive seen some maximas with 150+ mileage and dented up body for around that price.

dang, that's too bad.

you would think someone with the nerve to come knock on your door would be willing to pay a decent amount for a car that has some obvious value.

Your VE 5-speed has decent leather, right? Essentially, it's the same as my car, except you have lower miles. Even the low private party KBB is like $2100 and the high is a bit over $3k.

I would definitely consider paying $2500 for a good condition VE 5-speed with leather, if I were looking for one.

finally found them on ebay after searching many times over the past couple years. it took some luck though. i hadn't searched for months until i found them.

i did the same thing that this guy did when i bought my pearl one only i left a note. it only had 87k and we settled on $2800 which i even walked away thinking it was a bargain. i don't know what this guy was thinking because, yeah, the leather and rest of the interior is in very good shape. driver door has a dent and it has a few electrical quirks, but $2500 definitely reasonable. they were probably just looking for a cheap fix and sell but that's what i'm already doing that last black vg auto i bought sold easially for $2000. i figured the ve 5 speed would be a walk in the park @ $2900 but so far have just gotten 2 joyrides off craigslist.

A VE-5 With Low miles and a nice leather interior for $2500? *sigh* I love how all the decent deals have to be COMPLETELY on the other side of the country.

Got any pics, anyway?

I paid $1100 for my 92 VE5... through a dealer-only auction. There's no way I'd expect to get one for that price off the street. Especially if you didn't have the intention to sell before they showed up.

My Maxima has 250,000 miles on it and I wouldn't sell it for less than $2,000. I'd rather just drive it into the ground.

that's pretty typical around here.. people will just drive around town and if they see a house with several cars parked out front, they try to hassle you into selling one for cheap. I had a guy offer me $500 for my chevy truck a few months back... (In Houston you can't even find a running truck newer than 1988 for less than $3000)

I guess the next time I think about improving my car I'll have to remember that it's "just a maxima."

That's pretty much how it is.

You can fix it up all you want and most people don't want to pay more than kbb for it, with very few exceptions.

It's just a Maxima.

hah, starting to sound like ****ty slogan.

The 3rd generation maxima.... JUST a maxima...

Hmm, Next time I'm fixing up my maxima I'm not going to care about resale value because I'm not doing it for other people, I'm doing it for myself. If I really wanted to get mad cash out of a 13+ year old car... well, actually I wouldn't so nevermind

But I love my Just a maxima... So I hope that guys nephew finds a nice Civic heap...

the uncle probably can't even afford a car for the kid but he's talking like he's big pimping in his escape.

The uncle was probably just trying to help the kid get his first car without spending a lot of money. He probably saw that you had more than one and figured you didn't need both so you would part with one cheap.

At least the uncle was thinking about getting his nephew a quality car. After all, he was looking at a 3rd gen.
